7 Questions You Should Ask Your Team Mates Every Year


It’s still the beginning of the year, and never too late to re-strategize or even sit your team mates down for a ‘no-holds-barred‘ Q&A section, where everyone is free to express their minds.

This is in a bid to redefine the commitment on the part of the team, creating bonds as well as re-engineering the goals of the business.

There are questions you should ask your team members of which you should be expected to answer same too. The questions should revolve around goals, team work, priorities, SWOT, training and retraining, among others.

Make it a yearly assessment medium, more frequent is great as well. Now, let’s look at the questions we should be asking, preferably at the last week of the year or quarter.

What are the priorities for the business?

The employer and top management officials are in the best position to give a precise response to this and share same with every team of the company.

How can our product/service be improved upon?

That a product is perfect is an overstatement, as there’s always room for improvement, additional features or updates for previous features. What are our users/customers saying? How best can we reach them or listen to them?

What can the company continue to do or start to do to ensure more productivity?

There have been arguments that increase in salary only boost workers’ morale for one or two months. So, the question is what can be done to ensure continued or increased level of commitments? For some, it could just be the way they are treated, addressed while for others, it could just be a change of superior officer or even department.

What affects employees’ state of mind that could affect their efficiency on the job – adversely or favourably?

Is the company’s ideology, as it relates to team, around the often said phrase –  ‘People are our greatest assets’?

Be part of their life. What makes them happy at work and what makes them go screaming on co-workers?

It should not be just about knowing, but also proffering support when needed.

What are the personal goals of the employees/employer?

What are their dreams, and can the business help with anything towards its actualization?

How can the employees help the employer achieve the set goals for the business? It’s symbiotic; fulfillment on the part of the employee will definitely have effect on the company and employers.

What are the lessons of previous years?

This is about lessons on the job, both individually or as teams, whatever the case, it is of great importance to learn from one another towards achieving the overall goal of the business.

Are we on track for our short and long term goals?

Goals for businesses serve as benchmark guiding its activities. Has government policy over the last year in any way affected the actualization of the goals? What effect will adapting to economic or environmental changes have on the business goals?

Are both the employer and the employees on the same page? This ensures that the commitment of everyone on board aligns.
