5 Things President Buhari Did Wrong While In London
The absence of President Muhammadu Buhari from the country started a great deal of debates despite the fact that many people knew he was on a medical vacation.
Buhari who extended his leave indefinitely threw Nigerians into a state of bewilderment; not even the purported news of his death could make him reach out to the befuddled populace.
Although, majority of the population has been thrown into a state of excitement, Nigerians think the president has not acted accordingly and have faulted him based on these reasons:
1. He kept Nigerians in the dark concerning his health status
Nigerians feel sad that the president does not care about the way they feel despite the fact that they were worried about him while he was away.
The initial ten-working-day vacation extended to about fifty days and the head of the nation did not deem it fit to carry them along. And to think that several prayer sessions were organized in different parts of the country for his safety and wellness is too much for them to bear.
2. He did not honor Nigerian journalist
While President Buhari was in his medical vacation, a correspondent of the Guardian who wanted to see the president was harassed by a security staff at the Abuja House in London.
The security personnel called in policemen to arrest him simply because he wanted to interview his president. Meanwhile, the president received foreign guests and party men at the same house.
There are many people who love President Buhari and his administration. It is intriguing that the president only decided to call a few close pals. This action contradicts his well acclaimed saying ‘I belong to everybody, I belong to nobody”.
If the president truly belonged to everyone, he would have made the effort to address everyone instead of reaching out to the segregated members alone.
4. He called Nigerians mischief makers
Nigerians are worried about the thoughts of the president towards them. When he called Femi Adesina, his aide, he appreciated him for comporting himself and holding the fort against ‘mischief makers’.
Nigerians who talked a lot about his health were mainly concerned about him. Are they now the supposed mischief makers?
5. President Buhari failed to address the nation before his arrival
Nigerians have many thoughts and questions concerning the arrival of the president. If the president was too sick to call home and address them while he was on medical vacation, the least he could do was to address them shortly before his arrival.
To this note, the delivered note of his arrival was not taken serious until he landed in Kaduna airport. Nigerians have been fooled many times; they are starting to take everything as a huge joke. It would take a while before they would be able to put their trust in this administration again.
On the whole, Nigerians are glad that he is back! They want to see the nation moved forward more than anything else.
