5 Reasons Why We Love The New Ooni of Ife

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi of Giesi Ruling House of Ile-Ife was recently crowned as the new Ooni of Ife becoming the 51st Ooni.

Ooni of Ife

He is a graduate of Accountancy and defeated 20 other contenders to get to the throne.

Since he assumed the throne, we’ve kept up with him following what he’s up to and we think he’s an amazing ruler. Here’s why!

1. He is a peacemaker

He visited the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi on the occasion of his 45th coronation anniversary making him the first to visit since 1937. He also visited Modakeke, a next door neighbor to Ife. In his speech at the coronation anniversary, he said “My mission is to preach peace among nations of Yoruba both home and abroad”

2. He has the youth at heart

Because the youth are the leaders of tomorrow, the Ooni is massively interested in building up the Youths of today. During one of his visits to the president, he revealed that he had assembled 200,000 youths who were ready to engage in agro-activities, saying that 5 acres of land had been mapped out for each youth. The meeting with the president was also to discuss more ways to empower youths and develop them in general.

3. He has a lot of swag

Well, he’s wearing white most of the time yes, but is that a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti ‘David’ slip on loafers we see? Ride on, Ooni. Nobody ever said being a traditional ruler meant you had to forget your swag and not earn cool points. Apart from these loafers, there’s just this special swag he comes with whenever he’s at an event.

People of Ife  love their ruler because he’s doing wonders in the state. He launched a transit scheme to force down the high cost of transportation. He’s also hoping to make Ife a tourist attraction site due to the abundance of mysteries.

5. He has a twitter

LOL this is by far the most favorite reason I love him. His media team does a good job portraying him in good light on twitter and he’s the first traditional ruler to get active on social media. Probably because he’s not the average traditional leader. He’s awesome!
