Awisaju Tinubu Gains Recognition In The United States , Wins Global Award For ‘Champion Of Democracy’
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has gained recognition in the United States over his role in the last general elections in Nigeria. The 2015 election which ended a 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria ushered in President Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s next ruler for the next four years (three more to go) and Tinubu has been hailed as the key figure behind this revolution.
In a press statement made available to NAIJ.com by Global Village Extra (a US-based newspaper) organisers of the award, Tinubu won the award for the ‘Champion of Democracy’ ahead of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and Rotimi Amaechi who were also seen as pillars in ensuring the emergence of Buhari.
Taiye Olayemi, publisher of the online news medium, informed that “Tinubu will be presented with the award in a lavish ceremony during the Global Village Extra Seminar and Awards night slated for October 28-30, 2016, in the United States.”
According to him, Amaechi was picked because of his tireless work and near persecution during the build up to the election.
He explained further that the fact that a sitting president could concede defeat to an incoming president after losing at the polls (a first in Africa) made Jonathan a fans’ delight.
“Not only has he been hailed in Nigeria and Africa, he has been brought here (United States) on a couple of times and duly recognised for brazenly allowing peace reign in the country,” Mr Olayemi added.
Another committee informed that Tinubu was however picked because of “his steadiness and leadership attributes from over the years.”
