How Ex-PDP chairman’s Son Muhammed Bello Was Stabbed To Death By Wife

Habib Gaiam, a family friend to the son of former PDP chairman, Haliru Bello, has revealed what Bilyamin Muhammed Bello told him before he was stabbeed to death by his wife.

Bilyamin was stabbed to death by his wife Maryam Sanda on Sunday night during an argument.

Gaiam, on Twitter, disclosed that late Bilyami divorced his ex-wife to be with Maryam.

He said he had intervened 4 times to stop Maryam from stabbing her husband.

He wrote ,”Today i witnessed the most wicked and shameful display of arrogance in Bilyaminu’s death case. At about 9 to 10pm last night, tension started to build between Bilyaminu and his wife, Maryam at his residence.

”Maryam demanded a divorce with the threat of cutting off his manhood. Ibrahim Aliero, Bilyaminu’s friend (in whose instance the drama started) intervened 4 times to stop Maryam from stabbing her husband.

“Ibrahim called Auta (Maryam’s uncle) and Abba (bilyaminu’s cousin) who had left the house moments before the drama started to come and intervene.

”After a short calm, Maryam broke a bottle of groundnut and attempted to stab Bilyaminu, again, but this time he held both her hands and struggled to take the bottle from her, injuring himself in the process unrelenting and wild, she bit his finger.

”Uncle Auta had arrived this time to calm the situation. They both committed to uncle Auta to let go of the grievances (at least for the night) After the situation had become calm, Bilyaminu and his friend went to the Pharmacy to get his hand treated from the bite he sustained from Maryam.

”They later went to the ATM and made a withdrawal to pay up the balance of a spare part for Maryam’s crashed car. By 11pm, Bilyaminu and Ibrahim had gone back to a calm home. Abba (Bilyaminu’s cousin) joined them in the living room.

”They stayed till almost midnight and decided to call it a night. When Bilyaminu was seeing them off, he told Ibrahim that “I don’t want to go back until she’s asleep. They called it a day. Abba and Ibrahim left.

”At around 2pm Sunday afternoon, family members were summoned to Maitama Hospital, where Bilyaminu was laying in a pool of his blood with multiple stabs on his chest, shoulder, a deep cut on his inner thigh, and many bite wounds on his stomach.

”Maryam had confessed to stabbing him to the hospital authorities. Maitama Police Station was the next point of call. At Maitama Station where Maryam was asked to write her statement, story changed.

“She claimed they got involved in a fight and Bilyaminu sustained injuries from a broken shisha pot that she never stabbed or hit him.

“She was later taken to the FCT command in Garki II for further investigation. The police commissioner instructed that the crime scene should be visited. To the amazement of Abba (Bilyaminu’s cousin) and Ibrahim (his friend) who are key witnesses in the investigation.

”Bloodstains had been mopped up, murder weapon disappeared, but flower vases and shisha pot were broken to corroborate Maryam’s earlier statement at the station. In the midst of this tragedy and confusion, Maryam had the audacity and courage to change her story.

”More disgusting is her lack of remorse and respect for the victim’s family. Someone who divorced his 1st his wife to to be with you doesn’t deserve this. #JusticeForBilyaminu SHALL be served by the Almighty Allah on the day of resurrection.

“May Allah grant Bilyaminu Jannah and bless the life of his 8 months old daughter Sa’adatu.”

Nigerian Who Helped Diezani Buy Properties In London ‘Revealed’

A London estate agent who appeared on the BBC’s Homes under the Hammer has been named in an investigation into alleged corruption by a former Nigerian oil minister known as ‘The Madam’.

Court documents filed in the US allege King’s Cross estate agency, Daniel Ford, helped to buy millions of pounds worth of properties for Diezani Alison-Madueke in London.

Daniel Ford’s sole director is Adeyemi Edun, UK company records show. He has been seen on the TV series offering advice on buying and renovating flats.

Documents show that Mr. Edun has acted for the controversial Mrs. Alison-Madueke who was Nigeria’s oil minister from 2010 to 2015, the first female president of the OPEC oil cartel and a former executive for Shell in Nigeria.

The Cambridge-educated politician has faced investigations in the UK, US and Nigeria for allegedly receiving lucrative kickbacks for oil deals she sanctioned as a minister.

In 2015 it was reported she was arrested in the UK on suspicion of bribery and money laundering offences and released on conditional police bail, pending further investigation.

Her lawyer, who was named at a court hearing in late September, did not respond for comment. She has previously denied allegations of any wrongdoing.

The Nigerian government is trying to recover billions of pounds it believes were looted from the country during the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan between 2010 and 2015.

As part of these efforts, civil asset recovery proceedings have been separately filed in the UK, US and Nigerian courts.

While the UK proceedings have been withheld from the public, the U.S. court papers say Daniel Ford ‘assisted in the purchase’ of three London properties linked to the probe, an investigation by Finance Uncovered and The Mail on Sunday has found.

There is no suggestion in the documents that Daniel Ford or Mr. Edun committed money laundering or that they were aware of such activities.

The papers filed in Texas in July allege the property spree in London formed part of a series of disguised payments to Mrs. Alison-Madueke in 2011.

According to the documents, three Nigerian businessmen bought three homes near Regent’s Park over a six-day period in March that year for £8.3million.

The US investigators allege the properties were ‘provided’ to 56-year-old Mrs. Alison-Madueke ‘for the corrupt purpose of inducing her to use her influence within the Ministry of Petroleum Resources… to direct the award of business opportunities’.

The businessmen’s companies all received oil deals, the papers say. They are also alleged to have funded a lavish lifestyle for Alison-Madueke.

Between December 2012 and July 2014, one of them allegedly paid a chauffeur company nearly £400,000 for her use.

The US investigators allege the properties were bought using offshore companies in the Seychelles and the British Virgin Islands. Two of the properties were frozen by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service last year.

A separate court application filed by Nigerian investigators in Abuja in August this year claims ‘one Adeyemi Edun’ received more than $5.5 million in cash from Alison-Madueke to be used to buy properties for her in Lagos in May 2011.

The Nigerian investigators allege money was moved through two bank accounts in Nigeria before being transferred to buy upmarket apartments in Lagos.

Contacted by telephone, Mr. Edun said he could not discuss the Alison-Madueke matter because ‘it was subject to ongoing investigation’. He added: ‘Everything is done within the ambit of regulation, that I can say.’

When asked about the Nigerian court papers, Mr. Edun said: ‘You have to be very sure the name you are referring to is actually mine, because it is common in a country of 180 million people.’

The Nigerian filings show that a Daniel Ford email address was used to issue payment instructions for the Lagos apartments.

They also include Mr. Edun’s Nigerian passport and a UK mobile number that he used to answer our call.

According to his social media accounts and land registry documents, Mr. Edun, 46, appears to have links to other Nigerian politicians and has attended dinners for the country’s expats at luxury hotels in London.

Former Arsenal and Nigeria football star, Nwankwo Kanu, has praised his work, reportedly saying in 2012 that Daniel Ford ‘helped grow my London property investment despite my tight schedule’.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing or any further link to the company by Kanu.

Estate agencies are required by law to conduct enhanced due diligence on politically exposed persons, or PEPs, to establish the source of their proposed funds used to buy UK property, and to monitor them on an ongoing basis.

It is an offence not to report suspicion of money laundering to the National Crime Agency.

When asked to detail what checks Daniel Ford carried out on the properties allegedly bought for Mrs. Alison-Madueke in London, Mr. Edun said he was under legal advice not to comment.

Ekwueme`s Death, Big Loss To The Nation – Nigerians in Dispora

The Nigerian community in South Africa says the passing away of Dr. Alex Ekwueme, former Vice President, is a big loss to the nation.

Ekwueme died in a London clinic, aged 85 on Sunday.

Mr Adetola Olubajo, President, Nigeria Union, South Africa, who spoke on the telephone from Pretoria on Monday, that Nigerians in that country received the news with shock.

He described Ekwueme as a politician with exceptional policies rarely seen among “the political gladiators currently dominating our political climate.

“He was upright, cerebral, courageous and loyal to the country while he was serving in various public offices.

“His wealth of experience and contributions to the political landscape in Nigeria will be greatly missed.

“In 1995, he proposed the six geopolitical zones which Nigerians now use for decision making on national issues, Olubajo said.

According to him, as First Executive Vice President of Nigeria, it is a public knowledge that Ekwueme left office poorer than he was when he entered it.

“This cannot be said of Nigerian politicians anymore,” the President said.

Olubajo said that Nigerians in South Africa commiserated with his family, friends, and associates.

“We love him, but God loves him more. Adieu father of the nation, and elder statesman per excellent and true nationalist,” he said.

How Jonathan Averted Blood-spilling in 2015 – Atiku

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has described former President Goodluck Jonathan, as a patriotic man who saved the lives of Nigerians during the 2015 elections.

He said this in his message to the Bayelsa-born former leader who clocks 60 today.

Atiku sent his wishes via his Twitter account on Monday.

“A very happy 60th birthday to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan @GEJonathan, the Face of Democracy in Africa”, he wrote.

“Your words that your ambition isn’t worth the blood of our citizens will stand forever.

“I wish you continued good health and wisdom.”

On Sunday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) described the former President, Goodluck Jonathan as a patriotic and humble leader.

APC, in a statement by National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji, said Jonathan demonstrated love for the country during the 2015 Presidential election.

The statement reads: “The All Progressives Congress APC warmly congratulates former president, H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on his 60th birthday.

“We join well-wishers in celebrating a statesman whose life and politics have been defined by patriotism and humility.

“The APC recalls the commendable and exemplary conduct of Dr. Jonathan before and after the 2015 presidential election, which demonstrated his patriotism and love for Nigeria.

“The Party urges Dr. Jonathan to remain steadfast to the positive ideals he stands for and continue to support the development of the country. The Party wishes Dr. Jonathan many more happy, healthy and rewarding years of service to the nation”.

Similarly, President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Jonathan on his new age.

REVEALED: Jonathan’s Wife called Adoke ‘Useless Man’ For Not Disqualifying Buhari in 2015

Snippets of what transpired after the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28, 2015 presidential election are now coming to the open, with his wife accused of calling Mohammed Bello Adoke, then-attorney-general of the federation,  a “useless man” for not helping to disqualify candidate Muhammadu Buhari.

In his upcoming book, ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, Bolaji Abdullahi — who served as minister under Jonathan from 2011-2014 — alleged that Olusegun Mimiko, then-governor of Ondo state, wanted Buhari, the APC candidate, prosecuted for “certificate forgery” and disqualified from contesting in the election.

But Adoke, who was considered one of the most powerful ministers under Jonathan, argued against it, maintaining that there was no legal basis to prosecute Buhari.

The APC candidate went on to win the historic election which saw the defeat of an incumbent president for the first time in Nigeria, but Patience Jonathan gave a piece of her mind to Adoke two days after the poll.

In an advance copy of the book, Abdullahi described Jonathan as a man who had “a distinct aversion for taking any action that could be regarded as unlawful or illegal”.

This, he said, made the attorney-general central to most of the decisions the former president had to make.

Abdullahi wrote: “Two days after the election, Adoke had gone to see the president in respect of the appointment of a new chief judge for the FCT. While waiting in the outer room, the First Lady walked in. He rose to greet her. But she took one long look at him and hissed: ‘Useless man. You betrayed my husband. Now that he has lost the election, you are happy. It was the same Attorney General that Bayo Ojo used to disqualify Atiku for Obasanjo (in 2007). It was the same office that (Mike) Aondoakaa used to make dead man (Umaru Musa Yar’Adua) to rule Nigeria. But when it comes to my husband, you will be shouting, constitution, constitution.’”

‘CONSTITUTIONAL PURIST’

Abdullahi said Mimiko was at the forefront of the agitation to have Adoke issue a fiat that would have given the power to a private citizen to prosecute Buhari for certificate forgery which could have led to his disqualification from the election, “or at the very least, disrupt the electoral process”.

Buhari had said his secondary school certificate was with the military authorities, but after they denied having it, he got a replacement from his alma mater, Government College, Katsina.

Adoke stood his ground as pressure grew for him to kick-start the process of disqualifying Buhari — a situation that made Jonathan’s supporters, including his wife, blame the attorney-general for the loss.

“There were a number of other issues that led many in the president’s immediate political circle to conclude that Adoke was the reason that President Jonathan failed to act with the required toughness on some issues,” Abdullahi wrote.

“When in May 2013 the president declared a state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, some of the president’s men, led by Ijaw leader Edwin Clark, had asked him to sack the governors of those states as part of the emergency measures. Adoke, on the other hand, counselled the president against sacking the governors, insisting that such action had no constitutional backing. Clark fired back, asking the president to sack Adoke himself.

“Prominent lawyers and civil society groups promptly weighed in on the side of the minister, and commended him for being a ‘constitutional purist’. They noted that he could easily have allowed the president to act differently, if he were so minded, relying on the precedent set by President Obasanjo in the case of Plateau State and Governor Joshua Dariye in 2004 – a matter concerning which the Supreme Court had declined to make a definite ruling.”

GOVERNORS’ REVOLT

Abdullahi said a similar situation arose after five governors left the PDP to join APC in November 2013.

“Some PDP governors had gone to the president and asked that their decamped (defected) colleagues be removed and be replaced by their deputies. Their argument was that those governors did not contest the elections by themselves but on behalf of the party. They pointed out that this had been determined in the case of Amaechi vs. INEC (in 2007), in which the Supreme Court ruled that it is the party that contests election and not an individual,” he wrote.

“The mandates held by those governors were therefore held in trust for the PDP and could not be transferred to another party. If a governor left the party, as the five governors had done, they ought to leave their mandate behind. Where their deputies did not follow them to APC, those deputies should be sworn in as governors without delay. Whereas, where the deputy governors had also decamped, a sole administrator should be appointed. Failure to take these steps would amount to robbing Peter to pay Paul.

“The president summoned the Attorney General and asked for his opinion. In line with his established character, Adoke told the president that the position being canvassed by the governors could not withstand the test of the law. The constitution did not grant the president such powers and had spelt out clearly how a governor could be removed from office. If Jonathan were to act as the governors were canvassing for, it would amount to an impeachable offence. And that was the end of the matter.”

The book will go on sale nationwide from November 30, 2017 after the launch.

Abdullahi was fired as minister of sport in March 2014 by Jonathan allegedly on account of his “godfather”, Bukola Saraki, who had joined other party rebels in defecting to the APC.

He is currently the national publicity secretary of the APC.

Late Alex Ekwueme Believed In The Unity Of Nigeria – South-East Governors

The South-East Governors’ forum on Monday, joined millions of Nigerians to mourn the death of former Nigeria’s Vice-President, Dr Alex Ekwueme.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi and Chairman of the forum described Ekwueme’s death as the end of an era, in a statement in Abakalilki.

The elder statesman died at a London clinic at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, according to his brother, Igwe Laz Ekwueme.

Ekwueme, who turned 85 years in October, was reported to have collapsed in his residence in Enugu a few weeks ago.

He was immediately taken to Memfys Neurosurgery Hospital in Enugu from where he was moved to London for further medical attention on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ekwueme was the Vice President of Alhaji Shehu Shagari between 1979 and 1984.

According to the forum, the death is a rude shock and a great loss to Ndigbo in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

“I commiserate with the Anambra Government and the entire Ekwueme family of Uga in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state over the loss,” the chairman said.

He prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest in His bosom.

“The death of our father and leader is devastating, especially during this period that his advice is needed most.

“We have lost a gem, gentleman, decent politician and academia as the South-East through, its governors would soon map programmes to pay its last respect to the fallen iroko tree.”

Anambra Defeat: How Makarfi Brought Ill-luck To PDP – Kashamu

HTML5 Icon
Buruji Kashamu

The senator spoke against the backfrop of the dismal performance of the PDP in the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday, which was won by the All Progressive Grand Alliance’s candidate, Willie Obiano.
In a statement he issued on Sunday after the PDP came third behind Obiano and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kashamu said,“it is clear that Makarfi and his allies have brought ill-luck to the PDP.”

He added, “Makarfi and his team came as if they were the saviour that the PDP was waiting for but they have turned out to be the ones who are killing the party with their illegality, impunity and self-centredness. They believe they can do anything and get away with it. They did it in Anambra where all the popular aspirants were disenfranchised and the ticket was sold against democratic norms. Today, the party is worse off for the dastardly act of these interim caretakers.

“It was bad enough that the interim National Secretary, Senator Ben Obi, lost his ward; that the constituents were rejoicing over his disgraceful loss is indicative of outright communal irrelevance. This calls for concern from our national leaders that specialise in unreasonable harmonisation and imposition of unpopular candidates over the popular ones.”

Speaking on the activities leading to the National Convention of the party, Kashamu said it was regrettable that “Makarfi is surprisingly betraying his constituency, the North, and reducing the PDP to a southern or regional party because of his presidential agenda. But, I know that the average northerner is politically conscious, sagacious and dynamic.

“Thus, logic is likely to prevail over the thinking that elections at the national convention shall be a bazaar for the highest bidder, irrespective of the likely hazard to the existence of the party. This will discourage the misappropriation of state funds for unworthy political misadventures.”
He said at the rate Makarfi and his people were going, “anyone who wants to become anything in the PDP would have to first go and pay obeisance to a demi-god in Rivers State and his orchestra special assistant from Afao-Ekiti, Ekiti State.”

108million Nigerians Lack Toilet Facilities – United Nations

HTML5 IconFile Photo

Currently, available data show that 67 percent do not have a decent toilet, 33 percent lack clean water, and 26 percent practice open defecation.

According to WaterAid, Nigeria will only be able to deliver a community source of clean water within a 30-minute round trip to everyone by 2039.

Water Aid is an international non-profit organisation set up in 1981 as a response to the UN International Drinking Water & Sanitation decade.

At the current rates of progress, it is estimated that Nigeria will never reach the point where everyone has the basic sanitation services. The United Nations also notes that women and girls, who meet their toilet needs out in the open, sometimes become vulnerable to r*pe and other forms of s*xual violence.

Other countries

India, with approximately 818 million people without toilet access, leads the list of countries where people have no toilets in their homes, followed by China with 607 million; Indonesia, 109 million and Pakistan, 98 million.

According to World Health Organisation, WHO, data, 2.4 billion people are living without a toilet worldwide, while 10 percent of people meet their toilet needs out of doors. Only 39 percent of the world’s population use a toilet that is connected with safe sewage system.

Also, it is believed that 10 percent of the world’s population consumes food that has been smeared with waste water. According to Amnesty International, millions of women and girls must walk at least 300 metres from their homes to find a suitable place to satisfy their toilet need.

By 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 6, aim to reach everyone with sanitation, and halve the proportion of untreated waste water and increasing recycling and safe reuse.

His German Bundesliga club Mainz 05 confirmed on their official Twitter account on Sunday that the 29-year-old suffered a fracture to his left hand on Friday and had undergone surgery.

The former Werder Bremen player, who made his international debut in the 0-0 draw in a friendly game against Mexico in March 2014, missed Mainz’s league clash against Cologne at Opel Arena on Saturday. Mainz won 1-0.

Balogun on October 20 underwent an operation on his broken cheek bone after he was injured in his team’s 2-0 defeat by Schalke 04 in their Bundesliga clash at Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

The development forced the former Darmstadt 98 star to wear a mask while playing for the O-Fives and the Eagles.

The German-born player’s partnership with Turkey-based William Troost-Ekong in the heart of Nigeria’s defence played a key role in getting Nigeria through to the Russia 2018 World Cup.
