Uproar At Ciara For Reposting Video About Marriage And Advising Women To “Level Up”

Ciara has angered a lot of people after she reposted a video telling single women that the reason they are not married is because they are walking in the spirit of “girlfriend”. She then went on to advise women to “level up” in order to get a husband.

The video she reposted on social media was from a sermon by John Gray. In the sermon, Gray talked about women acting like girlfriends instead of already acting like a wife prior to marriage.

The mother-of-two reposted the video with the caption: “#LevelUp. Don’t Settle.”

But a lot of people felt it was condescending and a way of letting single women feel they are inferior to married women and it’s their fault they can’t get a husband. The post sparked a debate on social media. Some said Ciara had a point seeing that she is now in a loving marriage. While others reminded her that she also was in the position of the single women she is now referring to and even had some bad relationships prior to meeting Russell.

Cici Adams, a reporter at People was one of those who called Ciara out on her post. Cici also criticized John Gray’s preachings as a whole and said women are constantly told to be a certain way to attract a husband, whereas, no one ever tells men how to behave to attract a wife.

Cici tweeted: “Ciara telling women to “Level up” and live “like a wife” so they can b married is astounding to me. Didn’t you need grace, mercy & compassion when you were being dragged up and down the Internet for the Future situation? How quickly ppl forget when they reach a perch of privilege.”

Cristiano-Ronaldo

Twitter Users Come For Bloodied Cristiano Ronaldo For This Reason (Photos)

It’s no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo pays great attention to the way he looks.

The Real Madrid star, however took vanity to a whole new level and got mocked on social media last Sunday after Real Madrid’s 7-1 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna in the Spanish league.

Cristiano Ronaldo had received a defender’s high boot to the head after heading home his second goal.

Ronaldo’s bravery left him lying on the ground with a gash and a bloodied face.

What upset social media was that after the team doctor raced onto the pitch to patch him up, Ronaldo couldn’t resist grabbing the doc’s phone to survey the damage.

The doctor had cleaned up the blood spilling down the Portuguese superstar’s face when Ronaldo asked for the doctor’s phone so he could take a look at the extent of his injuries.

After assessing the damage, Ronaldo left the field, despite his side having already made three substitutions, although the much-needed victory was already secured by then.

Real ended a three- match winless streak at home, easing the pressure on coach Zinedine Zidane.

Gareth Bale and Nacho Fernandez also scored twice, and Luka Modric added another goal for Madrid as they regained fourth place in the standings, cutting the deficit to Barcelona to a still massive 16 points.

With a game in hand, Madrid are five points behind third-place Valencia, and one point in front of fifth-places Villarreal.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Real Madrid has told Cristiano Ronaldo they will allow him to negotiate a summer transfer with either Manchester United or PSG his likeliest destination, according to reports.

The Portuguese superstar has grown frustrated with life at the Bernabeu after the club failed to support him over his tax case last summer, while they are also refusing to offer him a new contract.

Ronaldo wants a deal in line with Lionel Messi’s massive new Barcelona contract, but president Florentino Perez believes he should be happy with the five-year deal he signed just 14 months ago.

With the five-time Ballon d’Or winner pushing for an exit, Yahoo Sports now report that Real have finally decided to relent and will permit him to leave in the summer. Perez will not demand a massive fee either; the Real chief had previously insisted any club who wanted Ronaldo would need to pay his €1 billion release clause.

But, with Ronaldo asking for Perez to allow him to leave for a tenth of that fee – around £88m, slightly more than he cost when Real signed him – the Real president has agreed to a compromise.

United are believed to be Ronaldo’s preferred destination and the Red Devils retain a strong interest in bringing him back to Old Trafford despite securing a deal for Alexis Sanchez.

Diezani In Trouble Again As EFCC Uncover $1.3b Withdrawal From NNPC Accounts

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detectives have just uncovered the withdrawal of $1.3billion from the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), ostensibly to fight kidnapping and other security threats in the Niger Delta.

The withdrawal was neither authorised by the National Assembly nor the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The former Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is also believed to be unaware of the deductions from the NNPC accounts.

The ex-Minister only relied on a memo from ex-President Goodluck Jonathan without recourse to the board of the NNPC.

A former Group Executive Director, Finance and Accounts of NNPC, Mr. Bernard Otti, has been quizzed by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detectives.

Otti is said to have also made available to the EFCC some documents, including approvals to withdraw the $1.3billion by Mrs Alison-Madueke.

In two other instances, Jonathan wrote on two other requests mandating the former minister to take part of the cash from either NNPC Security Vote Account or from the “Gas Fund”.

According to sources, EFCC operatives were almost closing up the probe of the ex-Minister when the withdrawal of the $1.3billion was uncovered.

About $1.4billion was requested by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) via three memos, for “Intervention for Urgent National Security Projects.”

About $1.3billion was released from NNPC accounts but it was unclear what became of the $100million balance as at press time.

ONSA had requested for $1.4billion between March 27, 2014 and May 5, 2014 when approval was given and cash backed.

About three memos were sent to ex-President Jonathan on March 27, 2014, 31st March 2014 and May 5, 2014.

In the first memo, of March 27th, 2014, the former National Security Adviser, Mr. Sambo Dasuki, requested for $1billion to fight kidnapping, crude oil theft and petroleum pipeline vandalism.

The memo to Jonathan, which was titled “Request for intervention for urgent National Security Projects”, said:

“Your Excellency, apart from the insurgency in the Northeast, the country is also contending with some other security challenges, such as crude oil theft, sea piracy, kidnapping as well as petroleum pipeline vandalism.

“These challenges have greatly affected revenue profile of the nation and our international image.

“Our gas pipeline network has also come under serious threat as the scourge of vandalism has spread to the gas sector.

Apart from the volatility of gas and its potential for collateral damage, especially environmental degradation, shortage of gas will constitute a serious setback to Government’s power generation efforts.

“Additionally, Mr. President had promised during the 30th meeting of NEPAD Heads of State and Governments Orientation Committee that the Trans-Saharan Pipeline Project from Nigeria to Algeria will be completed in 2015. The security of the Nigerian end of this pipeline network is critical to the success and smooth running of this gas project.

“Further to Mr. President’s support so far in our fight against terrorism, there is urgent need to raise our intelligence gathering efforts to more strategic levels.

“It is therefore pertinent that a holistic approach is applied to solving these challenges highlighted above. To ameliorate the above mentioned challenges, some reputable companies have been identified to provide the following:

(a) An integrated maritime domain awareness platform that can be integrated into enforcement platform of the Navy and other agencies to help check crude oil theft, sea piracy and kidnapping as well as Offshore pipeline vandalism.

(b) An Onshore petroleum and gas pipeline surveillance and monitoring solution.

(c) Unmanned aerial platforms for strategic intelligence gathering.

(d) Mobile radars for aerial coverage by the Nigerian Air Force

(5) In view of the foregoing, Mr. President is kindly requested to approve the provision of $1billion intervention funds to enable the urgent provision of the above-mentioned services. Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem.”

Commenting on the ONSA memo, ex-President Jonathan on March 31, 2014 approved the release of $1billion. He said: “HMPR, NSA, Paragraph approved.”

A follow-up memo on March 31, 2014 to Mrs. Alison-Madueke and the ex-NSA conveyed the approval.

The memo, signed by a former Senior Special Assistant (Admin) Matt Aikhionbare, said:

“RE: Request for intervention projects for urgent National Security Projects.” Reference: (A) Letter NSA/SH/600/A dated 27th March 2014 on the above subject matter. I am directed to forward Reference A to you and to convey to you Mr. President’s approval of Paragraph (5). Humbly submitted for your further action sir.”

In spite of the initial approval, ONSA on April 9, 2014, via a memo NSA/SH/600/A asked for a fresh $200million.

The second memo said:

“Your Excellency, please refer to your letter PRES/88-3/MPR/716/149/NSA/ 634 of 31st March 2014 on the above subject. During our review of the process, we realised a few gaps in the assessment of the protection of the gas pipelines, which will likely render the entire protection plan incomplete as the inland gas network was not considered.

“In view of this, I crave the indulgence of Mr. President to please approve an additional $200million only to enable a thorough security of the pipelines. Please, accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem.”

Following the receipt of a second memo, the ex-President wrote:

“Approved. Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources to release funds from the “Gas Fund”.

In a third memo of May 5,2014(NSA/SH/ 600/A), the ex-NSA applied for additional $250million to be sourced from the account of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), which is a subsidiary of NNPC.

The memo states:

“Your Excellency, in our efforts to continue building capacity for our counter-terrorism efforts, it is pertinent we appropriately and speedily respond to challenges thrown up by the insurgents. This is in addition to several proactive measures already in place by government through the security forces. In view of the above, there is need for urgent intervention in the following areas:

(a) Provision of at least 15,000 ballistic vests and helmets to be issued to all troops in the operations

(b) Provision of 15 mobile scanners to cover entrances to Abuja and strategic cities in the North.

(c) Purchase of urgently needed ammunition for the Nigerian Air Force.

(d) Purchase of ammunition for the Nigeria Police

(e) Purchase of Night Vision Goggles for both the Army and the Air Force.

“To achieve the above-listed objectives, it is estimated that the sum of $250million only will be required. The money could be released from the security funds held by the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS).

“In view of the above, Mr. President is kindly requested to direct the release of $250million only for the above-mentioned subject. Please accept the assurances of my highest esteem.”

In his response, the ex-President directed as follows: “Please, release US$200m only from NNPC Security Vote.”

A highly-placed source in EFCC, who spoke in confidence, said:

“Investigation so far confirmed the withdrawal of the $1.3billion from some accounts of the NNPC abroad. But there are sufficient clues of suspected money laundering by the ex-Ministers of Petroleum Resources and some government agencies who used ONSA as a platform.

“There is no evidence of projects executed with the cash. Instead, some of the cash were wired into a few banks by these individuals.

“We have also grilled a former Group Executive Director, Finance and Accounts of NNPC, Mr. Bernard Otti who has cooperated with our investigators by making necessary documents available. We will keep you posted on this case.”

Fellas: 10 Ways To Slide Into That Girl’s DM Without Sliding Out On ‘Wet Floor’

We are already so deep in the use of social media that everyone already knows and understands what it means to slide into someone’s DM.

And if you are just playing catch-up on the pop slang, sliding into someone’s DM is a fancy word that describes the act of starting a private conversation with someone on social media platforms, as opposed to bantering on the timeline where other users can see your convo.

If you want to slide into someone’s DM and achieve success in there like Banky did in Adesua Etomi’s, there are rules to follow.

BankyW & Adesua Etomiplay

With these 10 rules, you’re guaranteed to get almost every babe’s attention:

1. Your first line

Make sure your icebreaker is dope. Certain greetings like “Hi baby”, “Good morning my angel” “Hi love” might never get responded to.

Why? The lady probably doesn’t even know you like that yet. Don’t be quick to throw words of endearment at her.

2. No wack handles/names

If your name, ID or handle is anything as ridiculous as the following “@emekatoomuchmoney @Taiwobillionaire @Jiderunningthings @TheDonOfLagos @DonMoney @Sexyforthegirls @JoeSexyAss @Mikesixpacks,” Chidera says you won’t make it with her, and several ladies will agree with her on this one.

playChidera Okolie (LiB)

3. The content of your page

“Also, avoid me if the first picture I’ll see on your page is a shirtless six packs (I’ll drool but that’s it… nothing personal☺) or a stack of money or goldchains.”

Many ladies will agree with Chidera on this one, too.

4. Go straight to the point

Don’t beat about the bush. Random messages from a guy already arouse suspicions in these ladies, anyway. So it is better to not waste her time and yours.

A recommended way to be direct is this “Hi, my name is Obinna Kunle Musa. Can I know you better?”

How to never lose a woman's trustplayLadies love it when you are direct with your intentions (Madamenoire)

5. Tribes don’t matter

Most people don’t give two hoots about tribe and religion. So proceed based on that belief except there are things in her posts or bio to suggest otherwise.

6. Don’t abbreviate like a college kid

Don’t say: “Hi, my name z John. Pliz snd ur numba. I’ll lyk 2 stay in touch”

Instead, go this way “Hi, my name is John. Please send your number. I’ll like to stay in touch”

7. Native dialects are extra points

Depending on the babe’s DM you are sliding into, “famzing” in a shared local dialect could unlock the door and get you her attention. But never forget, people are different. Some ladies don’t care.

8. Humor and wit always wins

“A humorous, artistic, sarcastic or witty individual will stand a greater chance. But if you are not… please… don’t try.” Chidera says.

Choosing to ignore your relationship issues is as bad as leaving a candle light on close to a pile of books and going to sleepplayHumour and wit are two things you can’t lose with (Shutterstock)

9. Religious visions

And again, the 24-year old says “please keep whatever your pastor said to you to yourself. God is yet to speak to me about you.”

10. Don’t over-do it

“Finally, keep it simple… or you’ll lose me at ‘hello.”’

What do you think of these rules. Let’s know in the comment section and poll below.

Recall that in December 2017, the Akwa Ibom Controller of Nigeria Prisons Service, NPS, Mr. Alex Oditah, yesterday, announced the re-arrest of 14 out of the 47 inmates that escaped from the Ikot Ekpene Prisons on December 7.

Oditah also said in Uyo that a three-man committee was inaugurated, to ascertain the immediate and remote cause of the incident to forestall future occurrence.

“Some inmates escaped from Ikot Ekpene Prison on December 7, at about 12.45p.m.; to ascertain the total number of those that escaped we had to do headcount. We discovered that 47 inmates had escaped from custody. Immediately, a search party swung into action and 14 were recaptured” he said.

The controller added that four of those who escaped died from bullet wounds when they tried to overpower prisons officers on duty.

Empress Njamah Debunks Statement About Younger Men, Faults Punch (Photos)

Nollywood actress, Empress Njamah has denied a report making the rounds on social media, which quoted her as saying she feels disgusted when men in their 20s make advances at her.

The report, which was originally published in Punch newspapers, circulated online after Instablog9ja reported it.

Njamah called out the Punch reporter whom she said chased her for days before she granted the interview, where she allegedly made the statement.

According to her, she only talked about her charity works and beauty tips in the interview.

The controversial statement reads, “A lot of men in their twenties say they admire me and want to date me. I am sure most of them think I am really young. Sometimes, I find it annoying because if they know my actual age, they wouldn’t come close or show interest in me.

“When people say I look like a lady in her twenties, I just smile. I am actually in my thirties…

Reacting to the report on her Instagram page, the actress described it as “defamation of character”. She also challenged the national daily to produce proof that she made the statement or apologise for putting her out in a bad light.

Njamah became a known face in the Nigerian film industry in the ’90s after her stellar performances in movies such as Missing Angel (2004), Missing Angel 2 (2004) and Liberian Girl (2006).

Born onto a Nigerian father, and Cameroonian mother, she grew to prominence in 1995 after acting in more movies such as Red Hot, When Love Die, You Broke My Heart, You Broke My Heart 2, Love of My Life, The Pastor & Harlot, and She Devil.

Robbers Request N25,000 For Valuables Worth N1m

Five suspected robbers have been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stealing foreign and local currencies, among other valuables estimated at N1m, from a woman on New Year’s Eve.

The suspects, who also collected the victim’s American visa card, gold trinkets, phone, were said to have called her husband on the telephone afterwards, demanding N25,000 to release the valuables to her.

The case was reported at the Ketu Police Station and was referred to operatives of the RRS, who arrested the suspects.

The 58-year-old woman, identified only as Alhaja, allegedly told the police in her statement that she was robbed at Ketu bus stop, Ketu, around 9pm on December 31, 2017.

She said:

“I was going to my house in Ikorodu after visiting my children on New Year’s Eve when I boarded a tricycle heading for Ketu bus stop.

“I alighted close to the Ketu bridge on Ikorodu Road around 9pm. I was the only one, as other passengers had dropped off before reaching the bus stop.

“Immediately I alighted, I was surrounded by five young men, who wielded knives and daggers. They collected my phone and a hand bag containing $800 (N288,000), 400 Qatari Riyal (N39,548), N45,000, an American visa card, a pouch containing gold trinkets and a purse with unspecified amount of money.

“After collecting all I had on me, they let me go. They then started using my phone to call my husband that I should bring N25,000 to collect my phone and all they took from me. When the harassment became unbearable, I decided to block the line.”

She said she reported the matter at the Ketu Police Station from where it was referred to the RRS.

The RRS, in a statement, said the victim’s Hawaii phone was sold by the suspects to one Michael Ogunnaike, who was arrested by the police.

Ogunnaike was said to have led the police to the gang’s hideout on Ikosi Road, where 13 people were arrested on Wednesday.

During a parade of the 13 suspects, Alhaja was said to have identified one Sola Oyedele, as one of those who attacked her that night.

Oyedele, who allegedly owned up to the crime, was said to have identified the other members of the gang to include Adejuwon Adeniyi, Alex Ikoku, Salau Damilola and Mohammed Muritala.

He reportedly said the gang was led by one Sikiru, aka Hauwa, who was at large.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, who confirmed the arrests, said the police were making efforts to increase security network around the state.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

Stress

5 Unbelievable Sicknesses Stress Disorder Can Cause

Stress introduces complications to our health. It causes sicknesses. There’s no denying the fact that in other to survive in the modern world, it is compulsory for one to live a life of stress.  Because our world as it is today seems to have been programmed to accommodate only the fittest of the fittest.

For some time now, scientists have been calling out to society that stress complicates a host of health problems. They’ve even gone further to state that chronic stress, which happens to be a mainstay of modern life, doesn’t merely aggravate illnesses, it also causes it.

Unknown to most people, the human body reacts to stress by first pumping adrenaline, and then cortisol into the bloodstream to focus the mind and body for immediate action (This is a response that has ensured our survival for years now).

Particularly, the adrenaline rush from the initial stress response can occasionally pose health risks. But the more significant hazard is the subsequent release of cortisol.

Constant stress exposes the body to a relentless stream of cortisol, which causes inflammation to go wild as cells become desensitized to the hormone.

Long-term chronic inflammation, on the other hand, damages blood vessels and brain cells. It also leads to insulin resistance (a precursor to diabetes) and promotes painful joint diseases.

And as quoted by Sheldon Cohen, a professor of psychology at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh who has been at the forefront of stress research for 30 years, he said:

“We are just beginning to understand the ways that stress influences a wide range of diseases of aging, including heart disease, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and certain types of disability, even early death.”

Owing to this, we’ve decided to bring to your notice some sicknesses that can be caused by stress.

Here are five unbelievable sicknesses that can be caused by stressed:

1. Irritable bowel syndrome

IBS is a group of symptoms which include abdominal pain and changes in the pattern of bowel movements without any evidence of underlying damage.

These symptoms are believed to occur over a long time.

However, Irritable bowel syndrome has been classified into four main types depending on whether diarrhea is common, constipation is common, both are common, or neither occurs very often (IBS-D, IBS-C, IBS-M, or IBS-U respectively).

5 unbelievable sicknesses that can be caused by stressplayA sufferer of IBS

Though experts are yet to confirm the chief cause of IBS, 94% of British doctors surveyed by Buscopan IBS Relief said the most common trigger for their patients’ IBS flare-ups was stress.

2. Depression

Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person’s thoughts, behavior, feelings, and sense of well-being.

And while it is often triggered by a stress-inducing episode, depression eventually “takes on a life of its own,” says Huda Akil, a professor of neuroscience at the University of Michigan.

However, it is very important to warn here that stress has the ability to throw out of balance, several brain neurotransmitter systems. And included among them are serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.

This does not only affect the mood negatively, it also alters the appetite, sleep, and libido.

3. Heart disease

Over the years scientists have tried in vain to find the perceived link between stress and heart attacks. However, things seem to be changing as a result of a recent study.

5 unbelievable sicknesses that can be caused by stressplayHeart failure

It has been discovered that the blood samples of people enduring high levels of stress contain a surplus of disease-fighting white blood cells.

And according to results of previous research, it was suggested that cortisol actually changes the texture of white blood cells; therefore encouraging the cells to attach themselves to blood vessel walls.

The result is a plaque, a key marker of heart disease.

4. Insomnia

Insomnia, which is also known as sleeplessness, is a sleep disorder where people have trouble sleeping.

Sufferers of insomnia may have difficulty falling asleep, or staying asleep as long as desired. It is typically followed by daytime sleepiness, low energy, irritability, and a depressed mood.

However, it is important to state here that stress and sleepless nights have long gone hand in hand because the hormones caused by stress induces our bodies into what is known as hyperarousal.

And it is this hyper-arousal that disrupts the balance between sleep and wakefulness.

Be that as it may, it has been observed in most cases that reducing stress helps tackle sleeplessness. It also makes it easier to fall asleep and improve sleep quality as well.

Cochrane Oral HealthplayInsomnia

5. Hair loss

Experts have confirmed that increased amounts of stress over long periods can actually cause hair loss.

Although not in all cases, hair loss is believed to be due to stress hormones causing the hair follicles to go into hibernation. It is the result of this that leads to the falling of hair when washed or brushed.

Wondering Why Petrol Queues Made Massive Return? Here’s Why

If you reside in Lagos or Abuja, you’ve probably seen your worst nightmare staring you right in the face all over again. The petrol queues are back with some vengeance like they never really left.

And maybe because they never really left.

The gas stations along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway have been shut to consumers. In Ikeja, only a few petrol stations are dispensing the product. Fat chance if you want to get petrol on the Island right now. For instance, on Awolowo way in Ikoyi, ‘Area Boys’ clutching kegs of adulterated petrol have resurfaced in their bedraggled outfits.

If you are wondering why petrol queues made a return, here's your answerplayPetrol queue along the Moboloja Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja Lagos

A respondent says the petrol station opposite the NNPC headquarters in Abuja has been engulfed with queues for as long as anyone can remember.

So, what exactly is going on?

There will be no prizes for guessing why the petrol queues made a return; just days after we thought they were gone for good.

The marketers are at it again.

If you’ve been listening carefully enough, the independent marketers have been warning about recurring and intermittent queues at gas stations for as long as there’s that differential between the landing cost of petrol and the pump price of the same product.

The landing cost of petrol was N133.28 per litre in 2016. The landing cost of petrol is now N171 per litre.

If you are wondering why petrol queues made a return, here's your answerplayPetrol scarcity grips Lagos again

In December 2017, marketers said they were importing petrol for N171/ liter. So, they wondered why anyone would reasonably expect them to sell at the government regulated price of N145 per liter.

During a legislative hearing in the first week of January, minister of state for petroleum resources, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, all but agreed with the marketers.

According to Kachikwu; “The landing cost of the product is about N170 to N171. The price at which we sell today is N145. So, there’s a disparity between N171 and N145. What this means is that those individuals who are really there, not with an obligation like NNPC which has to meet national supply, but with a commercial bend, will not bring in products or they are going to sell at a loss.

“We need to free the marketers to do their business. To do their business, we need to address the pricing issue.

“One model, for example is, at the time we got the approval of N145, the exchange rate was N285 to $1. Today, it is N305. So, even at the minimum, there’s a gap.

“We are looking at whether, theoretically, you could respect the N145 per litre price and have a plural pricing system, so that NNPC and all its stations and affiliates sell at N145. And at the same time, the private marketers are able to bring in product at their own cost and sell”.

What is happening right now is that the price of crude in the international market has gone up to about $70 per barrel.

Most marketers won’t make a profit if they have to import petrol at N171 per liter and sell at N145 per liter. It’s the fastest way to run them out of business.

If you are wondering why petrol queues made a return, here's your answerplayNNPC GMD Baru tries to stop hoarders

Each time the price of crude goes up in the international market, expect petrol queues back home in Nigeria because Africa’s second largest crude oil producer can’t refine its own crude for local consumption.

Only the state run Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is in all likelihood, catering to the demands of the local market right now. And that isn’t sustainable because NNPC doesn’t have the capacity to supply all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria with petrol even at the best of times. Hence the queues.

What can we do to stop these incessant queues?

Like Kachikwu hinted, our choices are rather grim as a nation and there are:

1. Allow private marketers buy and sell the product as the market dictates. That is called deregulation.

In a deregulated industry, private marketers of petrol who buy at N171 will sell at N175 in order to make a profit and stay in business. Asking them to sell at government pegged price of N145 when they are purchasing for much more will mean asking them to sell at a loss or asking them to stay out of the business; which is what most of them are doing right now in protest.

Osinbajo says govt’s burden is to defend territorial integrity, rightsplayVice President Yemi Osinbajo dispenses petrol during scarcity period in Lagos (Twitter/Presidency)

2. Nigeria has to begin to refine the crude oil it produces for local consumption. Until this happens, we’ll always be back here.

We have to get our refineries working again. Once we do, no one will talk about forex for petrol and how that is negatively affecting business.

3. There’s a high possibility that marketers are currently diverting the product across the borders because they’ll make better profit margins that way. Petrol sells for $1 (N306) per liter in Niger, Ghana, Cotonou. Marketers would rather take their petrol to those countries than sell the product back in Nigeria for less than a dollar (N145/liter).

Maybe it’s time to better police the borders and ensure no petrol meant for the Nigerian market is seeping out to Cotonou, Niger, Cameroon or Chad.

Until we stop the hoarders dead in their tracks, deregulate the market and refine the petrol we consume, the petrol queues will keep reappearing as soon as they disappear.

Breast cancer patient, Bridget Gunduor and her husband Atule Kile Gunduo were joined in Holy Matrimony Sunday at Foundation Hospital Makurdi where she is currently undergoing her treatment.

According to activist, Ukan Kurugh, he met Bridget last September through one Mrs Uke Dukek.

“We started treatment a month after and even though the Drs had explained to me that her cancer was at an advance stage, I stood my ground believing God she will make it.  We spent alot of money on her because Nigerians came all out to assist her.  Today she and her husband her taking marital vows at the moment at Foundation Hospital Makurdi were she is still undergoing her cancer treatment. A priest is currently doing a mass for her and darling husband.” he wrote.

In an update captioned: 50 YEARS AFTER MARRIAGE, MR. GUNDUOR WEDS BRIDGET ON HER HOSPITAL BED, RESOLVE TO LIVE MORE HAPPILY, Kurugh shared more details tails about the couple, appealing for well meaning individuals to assist the woman as her condition has deteriorated. Read below:

“Mrs. Bridget Gundor who for a couple of Months  (September 2017 till date) has been at the Foundation Memorial Hospital, Makurdi due to breast cancer complications that have reached a regrettable level today, January 21st, 2018 wedded the love of her life, Mr. Atule Kile Gunduor, with whom they have been married for over 50 years and have raised 8 children out of whom 4 are living.

The occasion which took place at the Foundation Hospital earlier today was attended by family members, well wishers and admirers.  The in-pains woman and her aged husband were joined in holy matrimony and blessed. In his sermon, the priest explained that, no time was late to come back to God and that, though the couple had lived together for a golden age without being wedded, it was only right to grant them the sacrament now that they were ready for it and urged them to live happily.

It was indeed a pathetic show of emotions as the couple exchanged marital vows and did the necessary as regards wedding. They signed the wedding certificate and received ovation from those who were present. Indeed, they fulfilled the agelong adage that, “it is never too late to do the right thing.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Bridget’s breast condition has reached a fearsome level where survival is hardly contemplated. I urge you all good men and women of the earth, to come to the humble woman’s aid so that, her walk on this stage can be elongated and made more meaningful. You have always done me proud and I believe strongly that, even at this instance too, help will to come. May God bless us all.
Happy Married Life to the latest couple in town.

Disabled Innocent Nigerian Man Released After 5yrs In Prison (Photos)

Rashidi Sikiru dragged Ajayi Adetola into the stealing case, when tortured by SARS officers

A 37-year-old disabled Nigerian man, Ajayi Adetola, who spent the last five years in Kirikiri Medium Prison over an offence he was innocent of, has been discharged and acquitted by a Lagos State High Court.

Innocent disabled Nigerian man, released after 5 Years in Prison lailasnews

Ajayi was arraigned on counts of robbery, stealing and conspiracy by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, after SARS operatives had arrested his former acquaintance, Rashidi Sikiru, for allegedly stealing a vehicle.

When the suspect was said to have been tortured by the policemen who asked him to name other members of his gang, he dragged the disabled Nigerian man in.

Punch reports that after Adetola’s counsel stopped coming to court after collecting N300,000 from his family, the judge was said to have assigned the case to a lawyer from the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender.

The lawyer who interviewed Sikiru, said he confessed to have mentioned Adetola in the heat of police torture. Sikiru, also testified during the trial that the disabled Nigerian man from Abeokuta, Ogun State indigene, was innocent.

Justice Kudirat Jose who delivered judgment on the matter, convicted Sikiru of stealing and sentenced him to four years’ imprisonment, while she discharged and acquitted Adetola on all the three counts.

Recall that in October 2017, a 41-year-old Kansas native, Lamonte McIntyre, who was wrongly convicted of a double murder, was set free after spending 23 years in jail.

McIntyre was originally convicted at the age of 17 on the testimony of witnesses who later recanted. Prosecutors presented no physical evidence or motive to tie him to the 1994 murders.

A judge was reconsidering the case in court hearings that were scheduled to last into next week, when the new prosecutor in the case said in a news release that new information cast doubt on witness identification of McIntyre as the killer, and that a jury might have not convicted him.

The expatriates, who were identified as Nate Vangeest, John Kirlin, Rachael Kelley and Dean Slocum were handed over to the American embassy.

The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the rescue of the 4 expatriates who were kidnapped at gunpoint in Kaduna state.

According to Punch, the gunmen abducted the expatriates – two Americans and two Canadians as they were travelling to Abuja.

The expatriates, who were identified as Nate Vangeest, John Kirlin, Rachael Kelley and Dean Slocum were handed over to the American embassy.

Also, two of the abductors were arrested and investigations are on to round-up the rest of the gang.

“Two suspects have been arrested and efforts are being made to arrest other members of the gang,” a senior police officer who confirmed the arrests said.

Speaking to Reuters, the spokesman for Kaduna state police command, Mukhtar Aliyu said “It was the efforts of the police, through the directive of the inspector general of police, that yielded their release last night.”

Aliyu also confirmed that no ransom was paid to the kidnappers.

Safety of expatriates in Kaduna

You will recall that in February 2017, two German archaeologists were kidnapped in Kaduna state.

They were working with Nigeria’s National Commission for Museum and Monuments on an excavation site in southern Kaduna.

Reports say the abductors demanded for a ransom of N60 million (about $200,000) before they would release they Germans.

The archaeologists were however rescued following the deployment of special squad by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
