How To Care And maintain Your Wig
Since wearing wigs is the trendy hair fashion around now, it is apparent you know the proper care of your wig in order to keep it looking new and attractive. One of the keys to making your wigs, hairpieces and hair extensions look great longer, is proper care. Love your hair & it will love you back! Here are some quick steps to help guide in cleansing, conditioning & styling.
Detangle: Before you wash, make sure you carefully detangle the hair using a wide tooth comb. Start from ends and work toward the root to decrease shedding.
Rinse: Use lukewarm water and rinse from roots to ends. Do not soak as this can lead to tangling. Tip: If your wig is curly, try leaving the hairnet on
Shampoo: Loosen shampoo in your hands and work through the hair. Distribute a small amount of shampoo evenly throughout the hair. Never use hot water or it could lead to the wig falling apart.
Tip: Use circular motions to clean the cap
For synthetic hair: Spray leave-in conditioner from the mid-shaft to the ends. Tip: Avoid the root or knots.
For human hair: Leave in for a few minutes before rinsing. Do NOT apply conditioner to the root. Tip: If dry or damaged, use a deep conditioner
Rinse: Let lukewarm water flow in the same direction of the hair to avoid tangling. Squeeze and press the hair; do NOT wring. Tip: Towel blot to remove excess water
For synthetic hair: Air dry on a folding wig stand Tip: Gently part the hair with a comb before wig dries.
For human hair: Blow dry about 80% and then round brush until smooth.
Tweeze the hairline: You must take care of the hairline of the wig by tweezing the parting. This will help minimize or reduce the hairline from thinning out too much. Most professional wig makers do know how to get this done in a professional manner too. It is expensive but it is worth the money.
Use baking soda: You must try your best to use baking soda in order to make the wig soft and supple. You must apply it on to the wig when it is dry and then you must brush it out slowly too. This will help the dirt to fall out easily. It will also make the area shiny and less dull too. You must carefully use the soda and always dust the wig well before you put it on else you might look like you have dandruff.
Use apple cider vinegar: Try to use apple cider on your hair, you can add a table spoon of the mixture to a cup of water and rinse your wig in it too. This is actually a strong mixture as it is known for protecting your hair from any dirt and environmental stressors too. The acid in the vinegar will keep the hair of the wig soft and tangle free.
Trim the hair: You must try your best to trim the hair, this will maintain the hair for a lot longer too. You will be able to style it easily during a hurry especially when you have a function or an event to go to. You must be realistic and make sure to trim it to a length where it will fit your face shape and size else you might end up with a crooked looking hair piece.
