Cross River Victims Of Communal Clash Receive Relief Materials
The Cross River State Emergency Management Agency has distributed food and non-food items to victims of communal clashes in Obubra, Obanliku and Abi local government areas of the state.
Items distributed include bags of rice, beans, cartons of seasoning cubes, salt, garri, mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets and dozens of wrappers, among others.
Distributing the items to the people of Ababene in Obubra LGA, Inaku said the people were attacked by their neighbouring community of Inyamitate on May 15, 2017.
He said SEMA was displaying the passion the governor had for his people, adding that the people were suffering as a result of the attack.
Inaku said, “Governor Ben Ayade in his magnanimity has provided the affected victims with all these items. He has sent us here to deliver these items and to also preach peace among the warring communities.
“The rate of communal clashes in Cross River is alarming. This historical tussle over land ownership whenever the farming season approaches is very worrisome.
“These items are to provide succour to the people. Communities in Cross River must learn how to handle issues in a peaceful manner.”
Village head of Ababene community, Mr. Amon Egbun, who received the items on behalf of the community, expressed sadness over the recent attack that claimed two lives in his community.
