Lately, there’s been a lot of debate as to whether bras cause sagging, prevent sagging or cause breast cancer, which leaves most women utterly confused about the effects that wearing a bra can cause
First of all, the importance of bras as supporting device for breasts, especially large-sized ones, is undeniable. Actually, bustier women would suffer a lot of discomfort, even back pain, without the support bras provide.
However, not all bras types are beneficial. If, for example, you prefer the latest styles, or those that make your breast look bigger or perkier, as opposed to those that provide best support, you could be putting yourself at risk of some serious health issues.
WHY IS WEARING A BRA BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH?
One study suggests that wearing a bra can lead to breast cancer. This theory is grounded on how the body self-cleanses of toxins, as well as research results between women who did and didn’t wear bras and the corresponding breast cancer rates.
The same idea is supported by anthropologists Singer and Grismaijer, authors of the book Dressed to Kill: The Link between Breast Cancer and Bras, who explain that it’s the compromised lymphatic flow caused by ill-fitting bras that actually increases the risk of breast cancer. The study included over 4,000 women.
The findings revealed:
- women who wore their bras 24 hours per day had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer,
- women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day, but not to bed, had a 1 out of 7 risk,
- women who wore their bras less than 12 hours per day had a 1 out of 52 risk, and
- women who wore bras rarely or never had a 1 out of 168 chance of getting breast cancer.
Plus, Singer and Grismaijer also observed past bra-wearing behavior of the subjects, which is very important for a disease that takes such a long time to develop.
In addition, many health experts and scientists today support the idea that wearing a tight fitting bra can cut off lymph drainage, which can lead to the development of breast cancer, due to the fact that the lymph function to eliminate all the toxins that enter your body on a daily basis is compromised.
For example, one potentially dangerous source of toxins that can build up if your lymph drainage is impaired is aluminum from antiperspirants.
In relation to this, it’s important to understand the importance of MOVEMENT for the lymphatic circulation in many tissues. For instance, when you sit for a long time on an airplane flight, your feet and ankles can swell, because your lymphatic circulation falls down to almost zero.
Wearing a bra might contribute to the development of breast cancer as a result of cutting off lymphatic drainage, so that toxic chemicals are trapped in the breast.
A French study promotes the idea that bras aren’t necessary for women to wear and that they could bring some serious health implications. The study author, Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, discovered that women who chose the braless option gained more natural support as their muscle tissue strengthened over time compared to women who stayed loyal to their bras.
