Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, has cautioned Governor Adams Oshiomohole and the All Progressive Congress candidate, Godwin Obaseki, against using Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) to play politics.
Ize-Iyamu said APC should desist from dragging RCCG into what he called “their dirty and unholy politics.”
Obaseki spoke through his Campaign Organisation in reaction to claims that Governor Oshiomohole’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria, accused the RCCG Edo Region 13 headquarters (Trinity Sanctuary) in Benin City, Edo State, of converting the church building into the campaign office of Pastor Ize-Iyamu. Ize-Iyamu who is a senior pastor with one of the zonal headquarters based in Benin.
“Governor Adams Oshiomohole and his puppet APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, should not drag RCCG into their dirty, unholy politics. The allegation is a cheap blackmail from those who want to bring the name of the church into disrepute, and they will surely fail”, the campaign organisation stated.
However, the campaign organisation said that in the middle of untold hardship and fast deteriorating socio-political, cultural and economic institutions in Edo State caused by the “unholy and anti-people” policies of Oshiomohole/APC-led government; good Christian leaders cannot continue to remain in the middle-of-the-road and aloof.
Asserting that pastors could give direction in the face of bad governance, the Campaign said: “Why can’t pastors be part of our efforts to rescue Edo State? Just yesterday, three more pensioners in Edo state died while others are presently languishing in penury and different ailments following the long wait for their arrears of pension and gratuities after retirement from active service”.
