Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) , established in 1999, is the Premier Private University in Nigeria. Located at Okada in Okada, a town near Benin City, Edo state. The university was founded by Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion CFR, a billionaire, philanthropist and a local leader.
The first private university in Nigeria is the Igbinedion University, Okada town, Benin City, in Edo State of Nigeria. Established in 1999 by Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, the university has an enrollment capacity for about 5,000 students comprising both undergraduates and postgraduates.
Some of faculties in the university include Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Arts and Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Business and Management Studies. As with other universities in Nigeria, the university is supervised by the Vice Chancellor.
Igbinedion University is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as well as other professional bodies, including Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Computer Professional Council of Nigeria (CPCN), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and Council of Legal Education.
Annually, more than 60 percent of products of the university’s undergraduate programmes proceed for postgraduate studies abroad, with most eventually scoring impressive grades.
