Nollywood is filled with a lot of talented women, who have become our idols for their acting prowess and amazing transformation each time they get into character.
Some of our few star actresses have more than just their acting talent and are actually great singers, while some on the other side have been regarded as epic failures when they tried to delve into the music business.
Today, the 36NG team takes a good look at these actresses.
Tonto Dikeh – Tonto Dikeh is an amazing actress and has been rated as one of the most lovable screen icons in Nigeria today. The hardworking actresses has featured in several movies that has seen her reach the top of her career.
The Port-Harcourt born actress after enjoying acting several movies, Dikeh decided to try her hand inmusic though she had once featured in a musicvideo owned by Amaco investments where she and Patience Ozokwor were called to mime the song.
She made her debut by releasing singles ‘Hi’ and ‘Itz Ova’ feat Snypa. While many lauded her effort, the songs were trailed by controversy as critics especially questioned her vocal ability. Doubts were raised on whether her decision to try her hands on music was for the best.
Nevertheless the songs enjoyed steady airplay and massive downloads. Dikeh showed she was not a quitter with the release of a new single ‘Crazically fit’ featuring Terry G, who was also the producer, then Jeje and then some more. On 13 June 2014, Pop star D’banj, unveiled Dikeh under the artistes with his record label DB Records’ LEE family.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde – Beautiful multiple award winning Nollywoodactress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is one celebrated actress on the African continent and her decision to delve into the musicscene was lauded by her fans and she didn’t dissapoint them.
OmoSexy as she’s often called launched a long-awaited music career in 2005 with the release of her debut album titled GBA. The album produced the singles “Naija Lowa” and “The Things You Do To Me.”
Her unreleased sophomore album, Me, Myself, and Eyes, brought in production from Paul Play and Del B. It was supported by the songs “Feel Alright” (featuring Harry Song) and “Through the Fire” (featuring Uche). The album’s launch party was scheduled to hold in Nigeria, and tables were expected to sell for N1 million.
In late 2012, Omotola began working on her third album and enlisted the help of The Bridge Entertainment. She headed to the musical mecca of Atlanta GA to work with some prominent producers and songwriters who could help create a sound that would resonate to American audiences. Studio sessions included Grammy winning producer Kendrick Dean, Drumma Boy, Verse Simmonds. She also recorded with Grammy recording artist, Bobby V.
Ronke Oshodi-Oke – Yoruba actress, Ronke Oshodi Oke is the newest actress to join the music trend as she dropped her debut single days ago where she featured, 9ice.
The song titled ‘Ori Mi’ features 9ice and was produced by ID Cabasa. The song has met mild criticisms from her fans.
Genevieve Nnaji – Popular Nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji is a multiple award winning actress who is one of the highest earning actress on the African continent today.
The 35-year-old actress also once tried her hands with music and released a single and a video titled ‘No More’ where she spoke about being battered by a certain lover and she was tired of it. The song was lauded by her fans and infact became a favorite at the time.
The actress hasn’t tried her hands on music since then although she’s featured in musical videos one of which is D’banj’s ‘Fall In Love’ song. Watch the video for her single below.
Kate Henshaw-Nuttal – Kate Henshaw is also one of the actress in Nigeria who have worked on several projects and has become a household name inNollywood.
The delectable ebony-complexioned actress shocked many people with a gospel musical video a couple of years back. But Kate’s entrance into themusic scene was like a flash in the pan. There was nothing to show that she is a better singer than other actresses who are rocking the microphone. From all the indications, Kate may have agreed with the critics that she lacks carriage, courage and drive to realize her dream as a singer.

Dakore Egbuson – The delectable actress has a voice that would make most established divas go green with envy. She eventually proved her singing prowess with the release of her debut single track titled Don’t Make Me.

Shan George – Shan George is one of the early Nollywood actress who gained popularity for her acting prowess.
The actress had a very elaborate launch for her debut and sophomore albums. But the twice-marriedNollywood star actress knows for sure that she does not have what it takes to battle for space in the Nigerian highly competitive music scene.

Stella Damasus – Stella Damasus is a successful actress turned female child advocate these days. The beautiful actress showed the world she was multi-talented when she droped a music single.
The pretty screen diva is musically talented with a good voice that has obviously placed her ahead among the singing actresses. Stella belonged to Synergy, the defunct musical band, which was founded by her late husband, Jaiye Aboderin. She had since renamed the band G-factor, with performances in clubs, and cameo appearances in some events.

Anita Joseph – Anita Joseph is one actress who has managed to capture the heart of some Nollywoodfans because of her endowments.
The hot screen actress who rode on controversies to fame in a bid to maintain the tempo of her continuous rise to fame, decided to hit the studio and grab the microphone to display her lyrical wit.
