MTV Africa Music Awards 2016 (MAMA) Full List Of Nominees

Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade are up for awards in the upcoming MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016.

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa and MTV Base (DStv channel 322) announced the final set of nominees for the MAMAs at the Lagos leg of the Road to MAMA on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Hard Rock Café.

In this year’s Artist of the Year category are Nigerian artistes Wizkid and Yemi Alade, go head to head against South Africa’s Black Coffee, Kenyan group Sauti Sol and Tanzanian artist Diamond.

Tiwa Savage has been nominated in two categories. The singer will battle for the the Best Female award with Yemi Alade, Josey(Ivory Coast), Mz Vee (Ghana) and Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania). Her recent music video ‘If I start to talk’ is the only Nigerian video nominated in the Video of The Year category.

Falz, Simi and Tekno will go head to head in the Best Breakthrough category while Kiss Daniel and Burna Boy have been nominated in the listener’s choice awards..

The final list of the MAMA nominees reveals nominations in seven award categories including Artist of the Year, Best Female, Listener’s Choice, Best Breakthrough, Best Francophone, Song of the Year in partnership with Google, and Video of the Year. The awards recognize the best of Africa this year.

This year’s nominations are truly pan-African, coming from all corners of the continent, and honouring artists and achievers from more countries than ever before. We congratulate all our nominees from North, East, West, Central and Southern Africa as we count down the weeks to MAMA 2016,” said Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, VIMN Africa.
