This Is Why You Should Never Spank A Child
Spanking children is a really bad idea – not only is it bad for children’s mental health, it also doesn’t work.
Children who are spanked are actually MORE likely to defy their parents and behave badly – and are no more likely to obey their parents.
Spanked children are more likely to behave anti-socially, have increased aggression, and experience mental health problems.
Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin analysed 50 years of research on spanking, involving over 160,000 children.
Andrew Grogan-Taylor of the University of Michigan said, ‘Spanking does the opposite of what parents usually want it to do.
Elizabeth Gershoff, of the University of Texas at Austin, said, ‘We found that spanking was associated with unintended detrimental outcomes and was not associated with more immediate or long-term compliance, which are parents’ intended outcomes when they discipline their children.’
