The 4th edition of the fashion show will see four graduate brands; Imi Taj, Idyll Okunusi Couture, Needlepoint Stitches & Style and Ashillarozae debuting their latest collections on the runway at the anticipated student fashion show. The Nigerian Student Fashion & Design Week 2016 is set to hold on August 12th & 13th 2016 at the Indoors Hall of the University of Lagos.
In an interview with Naij.com, the founder of NSFDW and CEO of BlackNBold Fashion House, Mr Orimolade Abiola, opened up on how he came about the show and his anticipation for the event. How did you come about the fashion show? When I was schooling at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, I saw that in our environment then we have a lot of creative people in the fashion line and I keep saying it am not really in a fashion star so to say, I love helping people, I love giving back to the society so I was called to make an impact to my immediate environment, back in Ife there are really no structure unlike where we are from Lagos, there are really more platforms and these were just wasting around so I thought, let’s form a platform where we can bring everyone together and showcase them to a larger audience so that was how we started with the Ife runaway back in Ife.
After graduation I came back to Lagos and I was urged to do more so at that point a lot of people started calling us from various institutions to come to their school but is not possible going round every year and doing shows every time so we thought about something central where we can bring all these designers together and like a center, Lagos is, so that was how we came about the Nigerian Student Fashion Design Week which was like something that started way back when I was in Ife as Ife runaway.
On his plan for this year, and future plans for the brand, he said This is the first time we are having major partner on board, we have Naij.com on board, this is the first time we are having Wema bank on board, we have Zaron and these are brands that are strong, and that have recognition in Nigeria so when brands or project is in collaboration with these key people you already know, you have a fill of what this event might even look like so this is the first time we are having campus tours, we have been going from universities to universities trying to create more awareness and promotion of the event so, in fact right now a lot of people know about these edition so we are expecting a lot of activities, we have couple of celebrity artists who are coming, celebrities like Falz, Mayokun and imagine you have major fashion stars that people look up to in the industry been a part of the project people like Ejiro, Master Ferri, Mudi, Noble Igwe and others.
