The reports of the lynching along with the gruesome video have been making the rounds on social media, showing the young boy beaten to stupor before being set on fire.
2 days after a seven-year-old was reportedly lynched for stealing garri in the Badagry area of Lagos state, the state police have refuted the claims.
Nigerians were so enraged by the incident that they have been calling for justice and an end to jungle justice.
Subsequently, the Lagos state police reached out via social media, seeking any information that would help the investigation into the case.
However, the Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni has refuted the claims, saying the incident never happened anywhere in the state.
Police complaint unit, headed by Mr Abayomi Shogunle, via its twitter handle @YomiShogunle, said the story was untrue.
Report from Lagos Commissioner of @PoliceNG indicates that NO BOY CHILD WAS MOBBED/BURNT in Badagry or any part of the State as circulated
