President of the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by a Lagos court.
Yesterday, a Lagos Appeal Court upheld the earlier ruling of the High Court that sentenced the actress to 5 years in jail.
Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of the Lagos High Court had handed Fiberesima a 5 year jail time for reckless driving and endangerment that led to the death of Dr. Giwa Suraj along the Lekki-Epe expressway back in 2005.
Her lawyer, Nnaemeka Amaechina, filed an amended appeal which begged the court to set aside the ruling of the High Court and restore the ruling of the Magistrate Court.
A magistrate court had earlier fined the defendant N100,000 for the offense. But the appeal court yesterday upheld the decision of the High Court.
After the sentencing, Fiberesima who was visibly upset took to her Facebook account to post a message:
Pray with Me
There has been an outpouring of support and prayers from her loyal fans.
It is still unclear when the actress will be remanded in prison.
