On this day in 2011, former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, and five others were  arraigned at the state High Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which accused them of defrauding the state government of over N1 billion through road contracts not executed.
The 15-count charge brought against the former governor and outgoing Senator representing Enugu East all bordered on road contracts said to have been awarded but not executed after contract sums were allegedly collected by the contractors.
Also on this day in 2011,the large cache of arms and explosives recovered from militants under the Niger Delta Amnesty programme of the Federal Government were destroyed at Lokpanta, near Enugu State.
The weapons include 1,798 rifles, 1,981 guns of various types, 70 rocket propelled grenades, 159 pistols and one spear recovered from Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states.
The destruction according to authorities became imperative in order to show the success of federal government’s amnesty programme.
