The year 2015 was a great year musically. Right from the start till the very end of the year, we had major happenings, ground breaking events, the likes of Wizkid getting major International recognition, the release of many successful albums, the return of Wande Coal, world class concerts and endless controversies, 2015 had it all.
Today is the last day of the year and as one who is passionate about the industry, here are some of the albums I expect to be released in 2016.
Two of the biggest names in the industry are expected to release new projects in 2016,Wizkid promised his fans a 10 tracker EP which was supposed to come before his third album, his first fully album under his Starboy imprint, it did not drop in 2015, so it is expected that the Starboy fulfils his promise in 2016.
Also expected to drop an album is Davido, his sophomore project ‘The Baddest’ may be released in the first quarter of 2016, with successful singles like Dodo, ‘Money’ ft. Olamide, the album is supposedly one that I expect to see express the growth of the young man who has put in so much work and consistency to get his art to this level.
I also expect the likes of YBNL soldiers Adekunle Gold and Lil Kesh (who was originally planned to drop in 2015) to release their debut projects while hoping their henchoOlamide takes a break from releasing an album this year.
The likes of female Emcee Eva also has her 1960 album lined up which her fans and lovers of rap music prays gets delivered this year, dancehall sensation and one of my artists for 2015 Patoranking has blessed up with hits like ‘My Woman, My Everything’,‘Make Am’, and it is believed that the talented act is putting finishing touches to his debut album due to be released before the middle of 2016.
Another female on the list is Northsyde’s Cynthia Morgan, the fiery and controversial dancehall act got the whole country singing to her ‘German Juice’, she featured on major concerts during the course of the year and built some form of cult following for herself. Her full body of work is one that has also been rumored to be dropping come 2016.
You can’t have a year as good as 2015 with three major singles and not be thinking of capitalizing on that with the grand release of your album two years after slipping unto the scene. That is the story of Kiss Daniel who has demonstrated with Laye and Good Times that the success he gained with Woju in 2014 was no fluke. The G-Worldwide front liner is also expected to debut in 2016.
Chocolate City Official Deejay, DJ Caise earlier this year announced that his debut album which is yet to be titled should be released in May 2016. Megbele croonerOmawunmi, Phyno, Banky W are also expected to release their new albums this new year, if they all stick to the plan, then plenty new music is assured come 2016.
