‘Look out for preservatives called parabens — they will be listed as methylparaben, ethylparaben or isobutyl. They get absorbed and go straight into the bloodstream and can mimic oestrogen in the body.
‘Formaldehyde is a carcinogen, so watch out for formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. These are not listed as formaldehyde, but as 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 2-diol, diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea and sodium hydroxymethylglycinate.’
