Often the first thing you notice about someone is their smile.
According to Everyday roots certain food groups are culprits in breaking down the enamel on our teeth, and as this happens, it reveals the yellow dentin underneath.
Teeth whitening and strengthening treatments are expensive, so we understand the need for alternative ways in getting the same results.
Here are great ways to help whiten and strengthen your teeth:
1. Clean your teeth while you eat
There are many fruits and vegetables, such as strawberries and broccoli that contain key ingredients needed to naturally remove plaque and shield your teeth from decay.
2. Brush your teeth with baking soda and lemon juice
We have to admit, this is not the tastiest option, but it works. Baking soda is mildly abrasive and will scrub away surface stains on your teeth. In turn, the lemon juice neutralises the acidity of the baking soda while also acting as a natural bleach.
Mix several teaspoons of baking soda together with enough lemon juice, put some on your toothbrush and gently brush it onto your teeth. You can then leave it on your teeth for up to 3 minutes before rinsing it off.
3. Oil swishing
Swishing around an oil in your mouth, such as coconut or sesame oil, can improve your overall oral health. The oil cleanses and detoxifies the teeth and gums without disturbing it. To make this quick and easy, try making these ideal coconut chews.
4. Use a straw if you can
Coffee, tea and fizzy drinks cause the most damage to healthy teeth and gums. By opting for a straw, these beverages will pour straight down to the back of your mouth surpassing your teeth and most of your gums. Sipping coffee or tea this way might sound ridiculous, so rather try this with fizzy drinks.
5. Rinse your mouth with apple cider vinegar
Again, this is not a very tasty option but it’s a natural and organic teeth whitener. It’s also very inexpensive. Simply take a good sip and swish it around in your mouth for 1 minute for cleaner, whiter teeth.
