Eucharia Iyiazi Biography: Inside The Life Of Nigerian Paralympian

Eucharia Njideka Iyiazi is a Nigerian Paralympian who specialises in the discus and shot put competitions in category F57/58. She competed in four paralympic competitions, winning two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

Early Life and Education

Eucharia Iyiazi was born on November 19, 1973, in the southeastern part of Nigeria.


Iyiazi took part in the Beijing, China, Summer Paralympics in 2008. She took home gold in the women’s F57/F58 discus throw event as well as the women’s F57/F58 shot put event. Iyiazzi established world and Paralympic records in the shot put and discus events for the F58 class at the Beijing Paralympics.

Iyiazi won a bronze medal in the discus event at the London Summer Paralympics in 2012, and then at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, she won another bronze with a throw of 27.54 metres.


On August 6, 2022, in Birmingham, England, she competed in the women’s F55-57 shot put and placed first with a throw of 10.03 metres. At the 2022 CWG, Nigeria won its seventh gold medal. She had previously received a bronze medal from Tokyo.
