The Katsina State Government, on Wednesday donated essential materials worth N5 million to prison inmates across the state.
Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS) presented the materials to the Controller of Prisons in the state, Alhaji Lawal Sabo, in Katsina.
Inuwa said that the materials included uniforms, mattresses, soap, rubber mats, detergents and disinfectants.
The SGS, who was represented by the Director, Cabinet and Security, Alhaji Lawal Dauda, said that the gesture was to enhance the welfare of inmates in various prisons across the state.
“Katsina Government is concerned about the sanitary condition of prisons, hence the decision to make the donation.
“The donation is also part of the promise made by Gov. Aminu Masari, when he paid a surprise visit to the Katsina Central
Prison three months ago,” he said.
Receiving the donation, the prisons controller commended the gesture and promised to make judicious use of the items.
NAN recalls that Masari had during his visit to the Katsina prisons, paid N2 million to settle the fine of over 200 inmates languishing in jail for failing to settle their fines.
