Maiduguri Residents Turn Empty Bullet Shells Into Rings

Residents of a resettled town in Maiduguri have turned war souvenirs to fashion items.

This is according to a Facebook post by Mohammed Chiroma, a humanitarian worker.

Chiroma said his team visited a town in the Borno state capital to sensitise the people about the dangers of landmines and unexploded devices but met a people adorned with fashion items made out of war items.

“We went to one settled village in #maiduguri today, to sensitize them on dangers of landmines and other unexploded devices,” he wrote.

“To my surprise, when they saw the pictures of bullets and other dangerous objects, they said, “we use to make rings with the empty bullet shells. I was like really? I then said let me see the rings that you guys claimed to have made from the bullets shells, three guys showed me the rings on their fingers.”

Borno state has been a target of several Boko Haram attacks since 2009.

There have been various suicide bomb attacks and kidnappings with the most prominent being the kidnap of 276 in April 2014.
