Meet Kunle Adewale, One of JCI’s 2018 Ten Outstanding Young Persons Awards Nominees

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria has unveiled the top 30 Nominees for the 2018 edition of the Junior Chamber International Ten Outstanding Young Persons (JCI TOYP) of Nigeria Programme.

The list of the top 30 contenders for the award was unveiled at a ceremony held at Protea Hotel, Kuramo Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday, April 8, 2018. The ceremony was witnessed by the 2018 JCI Nigeria President,Mr. Adeniyi R. Balogun, the Executive Vice President, South West, Abiola Olorunnisola, JCI International Vice President Kola Osinowo, the Executive Assistant to JCI World President, Adetola Juyitan, members of the 2018 TOYP Committee, JCI Members, past honorees, nominees for the 2018 Award and invited dignitaries.

Kunle Adewale is among the 30 nominees for the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Nigeria 2018.

Kunle Adewale is an artist by profession and a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Nigeria with specialization in painting and art history. With over a decade experience as an artist and educationist, Kunle founded Tender Arts Nigeria in 2013, a non-profit making organization which positively impacts children and youth with focus on art therapy, art education, talent development, community development and civic engagement. He has impacted over15000 beneficiaries through his art programs in 4 years in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. He has facilitated Therapeutic Art Projects for Children and Young Adults in Nigeria, West Africa and South Africa, among them include Children Living with Cancer Foundation Nigeria, Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria, Down syndrome Foundation Nigeria, Westbury Youth Centre South Africa, Special Correctional Centre For Girls and young persons with Autism.

In 2014, He was nominated for Global Teacher Prize organized by Varkeys Foundation in the United Kingdom .Kunle is inspiring hope and creating a culture of peace through his artistic engagement in Nigeria.  He was once the international program director of ICEHA’s Healing Through Art for survivors of Boko haram insurgency in North East Nigeria which has benefitted over 10,000 survivors in the IDPS camp, children and women inclusive. Some of his community based projects has been supported by U.S Department of State, U.S Consulate Lagos, and endorsed by International Child Arts Foundation, Washington D.C, Society of Nigerian Artists, Mandela Washington Fellowship, Young African Leaders Initiative, Terra-kulture Art Gallery, Lagos Nigeria, Quintessence Art Gallery Lagos Nigeria, Lagos State Ministry of Sports Youth and Social Development, Association of Private Educators of Nigeria and Committee of Relevant Arts (CORA) Lagos Nigeria.

In August 2015, Kunle had the honour of meeting President Barack Obama through Mandela Washington Fellowship award for Young African leaders in Washington D.C.

He was also specially recognized by Smithsonian Institution Washington DC. In 2015 and he was named Young African ambassador for Art and Culture by The Arts Council of New Orleans, Louisiana USA. He has featured on international and local  media platform like Voice of America Washington D.C. South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC 3) EbonyLife TV, Voice of Nigeria, NTA, STV, TVC, Radio Nigeria 1 among many others to mention but a few. His social impacts has been published in print media and viewed on electronic media.

Kunle is an International Advocate For persons living Sickle Cell Anemia.  He is a scholarship recipient of Arts in Medicine College of Arts, University of Florida. He is a recipient of 2016 Commonwealth Youth Worker Award in United Kingdom.

Kunle is raising young advocates for Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria through his art education/advocacy initiative “ARTS4SDGS” (Arts 4 Sustainable Development Goals) in partnership with United Nations Information Centre  and He is a member of Art Therapy Without Borders ,Inc.

Kunle Adewale currently runs Arts in Medicine Project for Patients and their Caregivers in Nigerian Hospitals and Healthcare through the support of United States Consulate Lagos.
