Mikel Obi Decides To Be In Egypt With Nigeria For AFCON 2019

John Mikel Obi

Mikel Obi who is the captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria has confirmed his readiness to travel with the Nigerian team to Egypt for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

This comes after meeting head coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr who had a meeting with the former Chelsea star ahead of the Nations Cup. Obi has not played for the Super Eagles of Nigeria since after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where Nigeria were sent out of the championship after losing their last Group game against Argentina.

There have been reports that Mikel Obi is not interested in playing for the Super Eagles again, but the 32-year-old has rubbished the claims.

“I met with Coach Rohr and we discussed his plans for the team in the forthcoming tournament. All I can say is that I am delighted and happy because I am coming to the Nations Cup,”.

Mikel made his international debut in 2005 and now has 85 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring 6 goals in total. Meanwhile, Nigeria are in Group B for the 2019 Nations Cup and Gernot Rohr’s men will face Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar.
