According to Vanguard newspaper, The Kwara State House of Assembly urged the state government to immortalize late football legend Rashidi Yekini, the due to his contributions to sport development in the country.
It should be recalled that there was a story that went viral about his abandoned house and also about his aged mother selling bread to survive.
The House leader Hassan Oyeleke, who spoke under matters of urgent public importance said Rashidi’s exploits in the football world put Kwara State on the global map hence the need for him to be immortalized.
The House speaker also said the late soccer ambassador scored 37 goals for Nigeria in 58 appearances with active participation in many tournaments and all the members of the House unanimously agreed for him to be immortalized.
Rashidi Yekini, born in Kaduna was a native of lra in Oyun Local Government area of Kwara played for Vitória de Setúbal in Portugal and died in May 2012 at the age of 48.
