Nigeria’s 54gene, Carbon and Flutterwave Win Big at 2019 AppsAfrica Innovation Awards

Nigerian healthcare startup, 54gene, has won the Best African HealthTech Solution award at the 2019 AppsAfrica award ceremony which held in Cape Town.

The AppsAfrica awards attracts attention from innovators across the continent each year, with organisers getting over 400 applications from 52 countries.

This years awards marks the 5th by AppsAfrica honouring tech and mobile innovators in Africa. Of the 70 selected finalist, 14 products emerged winners this year from four African countries; Nigeria, Angola, Kenya and South Africa.

The 4 Nigerian startups who took home awards are 54gene, Carbon, Flutterwave and One Kiosk Africa.

54gene topped fellow Nigerian healthtech, Helium health, to win the best African healthtech solution.

While Carbon won the award for Best Fintech Solution in Africa. This recognition comes just months after the startup expanded to Kenya and its co-founders recently joined the 91st cohort of Endeavor Entrepreneurs.

Flutterwave won the Changing Africa Award, another huge achievement to add to the various partnerships the startup has been making with global companies like Alibaba and Binance.

In the mCommerce category, One Kiosk Africa topped Lekkify to be receive the accolades of Best mCommerce Solution in Africa.

The other finalists who won awards include: Lori Systems (Best Mobility Solution, Kenya), Carry1st (Best News & Entertainment Solution, South Africa) , LightSail Education (Best EdTech, Solution South Africa), IDEA Digital Education (Social Impact Award, South Africa), Appy Saúde (Best African App, Angola), MOJA (Disruptive Innovation Award, Kenya), PM Connect (Best Enterprise Solution, Africa), Aerobotics (Best AgriTech Solution, South Africa), RippleNami (Best Blockchain Solution, Kenya) and Liquid Telecom (Best IoT Solution, Kenya)

Winners of each category will be invited to the Africa Tech Summit, Kigali 2020, where they will have access to sponsorships and partnerships from Africa and beyond.
