Nigerian singer Beautiful Nubia has been conferred with a honourary doctorate degree. The ESEP Le Berger University, Benin Republic decorates him with the degree on Saturday, October 15, 2016. The poet cum contemporary folklore singer is also a veterinary doctor. The folklore/ alternative singer was honoured with the degree for his contribution to arts with his exportable genre of songs. The veterinary doctor turned musician took to his Facebook wall to celebrate his award when he wrote:
“Thanks to the ESEP Le Berger University, Benin Republic for the honorary PhD in Arts award received on Saturday. Thanks also to the management of FCE Osiele for the very warm reception we received while at the school on Thursday. The Beautiful Nubia Schools Tour continues at OAU Ile-Ife (Oct 20), FedPoly Ado-Ekiti (Oct 21), Crystal Music Schl Ado-Ekiti (Oct 22), University of Ibadan (Oct 25), Adeyemi Col of Edu Ondo (Oct 28) and Yabatech (Nov 1). See you all then!”
Earlier 2016, the singer hinted on his aspiration to govern his state. He said: “We started a social political movement designed to do what I have been talking about, reach the people who take care of children to tell everyone that we need to invest in our children, give them the courage they need so that in twenty years from now we can develop a new generation of leaders who can be strong. I think about politics all the time but I always think like: ‘where do you go?’ You will probably see me there in the next elections trying to do something, to be governor of some state or something. I am working on it because I don’t believe in just talking for the sake of talking.”
Beautiful Nubia is a songwriter and poet. He is the lead singer for the Roots Renaissance Band, a contemporary folk and roots music group. His song, Owuro L’ojo was an instant hit on release in 2002.
