The Fascinating Life Of Nigeria’s Football Queen, Asisat Oshoala

Nigerian female footballer, Asisat Oshoala is one player who has showed that she is indeed skillful and talented as she has continued to rise and rise in her footballing career.

Yesterday, January 5, 2017, she added the GLO/CAF ‘Female Player Of The Year Award’ to her array of awards. The g2016 GLO CAF Awards held at the International Conference Centre In Abuja.

Early Life

Born on 9 October 1994, Asisat Lamina Oshoala is a 22-year-old central midfielder who hails from Ikorodu, Lagos. She attended secondary school education at Aunty Ayo International School in Lagos and graduated in 2009.

Oshoala incurred the wrath of her parents when she dropped out of school to pursue a football career


On 23 January 2015, Oshoala joined Liverpool Ladies and became the first African footballer to play female in the Women’s Super League when she signed for them.

She scored three goals in 12 league appearances for the Reds.

After about a year at Liverpool, she joined Arsenal Ladies in May 2016.

Oshoala found success as a forward for Nigeria’s youth teams but made most of her early appearances for the senior national team as an attacking midfielder. She was nicknamed “Seedorf” after male footballer Clarence Seedorf and has also been referred to as “Superzee” by her teammates.

Liverpool manager, Matt Beard called her “one of the best young players in the world.


1. Golden Ball award for best player  and Golden Boot award for the top goal scorer (seven goals) at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

2.Golden ball award for best player and second top goalscorer(four goals) with the Super Falcons team who won the 2014 African Women’s Championship.

3. GLO/CAF ‘2014 Female Footballer Of The Year Award’.

4.In September 2014 Oshoala was made a Member of the Order of the Niger by President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan.

5.BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2015.

6. Golden Boot award at the 2016 African Women Championship (AWCON) In Cameroon.

7.GLO/CAF 2016 ‘Female Footballer Of The Year Award’ .
