On this day in 1995 Siad Barre, former Somali President, died of heart attack while still in exile in Nigeria…

Mohamed Siad Barre was the military dictator and President of the Somali Democratic Republic from 1969–91.


Barre was forced out of office in January 1991 and in 1992 went into exile in Nigeria but died on January 2, 1995 in Lagos from a heart attack and was buried in the Garbahaareey district of the Gedo region in Somalia.
