Dogs Take Over Runway in Lagos Dog Carnival

The annual Lagos Dog Carnival featured canines dressed in traditional Nigerian costume, creating a colorful canine culture. Hundreds of furry pals were brought to the commercial capital by their owners to partake in the event.

According to organizer Jackie Idimogu, this year’s theme, ‘Wazobia,’ is intended to highlight Nigeria’s rich past. According to Africa News, she explained that the Carnival gives a designated space throughout the year for dog owners to celebrate their cherished “paw babies” with unique celebrations.

“The importance of putting Lagos Dog Carnival together cannot even be put in one sentence, it means a lot to the dog dads and the dog mums because from January to December they don’t have anywhere that they go to specifically to celebrate their paw babies and when I say paw, I mean p-a-w, paw babies” Idimogu added.

Aside from the Lagos Dog Carnival, which allowed dogs to compete, there were also pet care demos, training classes, and helpful tips on veterinary care and adoption.

Didi Afe, another dog owner, said the Carnival was educational and a fascinating forum for dog owners to communicate.

At the fifth-year festival, many dog breeds, including Pomeranians, Cane Corsos, and Siberian Huskies, displayed their clothes.

A Lhasa Apso, on the other hand, won the best-dressed dog award for its traditional Igbo costume.
