Netflix and GOBELINS Offer New Scholarship Opportunities for African Animators

Netflix and GOBELINS have announced that for the September 2023 intake, they would provide six Master’s scholarships to African students. This is part of a collaborative effort to enhance the pipeline of emerging animation talent in Africa.

Six students will benefit from the scholarships if they are accepted into GOBELINS’ Master of Arts in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking program.

This two-year English-taught course is meant to help students attain a professional level, particularly in directing and storytelling, in a multicultural setting.

Students participate in an open-themed end-of-studies film under conditions akin to a professional atmosphere, in addition to exercises in writing, storyboarding, and complicated animation (mixed methods and interactive characters).

The scholarship will cover tuition for the whole duration of the program (2 years) as well as certain living expenses in Paris.

Registration has commenced, and applications will be accepted until March 2, 2023.

The scholarship winners will be notified at the end of April 2023, with students beginning their academic year in September 2023.

More information about the program and how to apply for the scholarship have been shared on their website.
