Nigerian Tech Genius Sets World Record, Bags Youngest AWS Developer Associate at 13

Agboola Joshua, a young programmer, has become the world’s youngest Certified Amazon Web Services Developer Associate at the age of 13, just four months after being recognized the youngest Certified Amazon Web Services Cloud Practitioner in Africa.

Joshua attained the feat after completing a two-hour examination that assessed his skills and understanding in deploying, debugging, and programming on the AWS cloud platform, according to HowNG.

Cloud services are infrastructure, platforms, or software hosted by third parties and made available to users via the Internet.

Joshua is no stranger to cloud certifications from Amazon. In February, he took and completed the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification, becoming him the youngest person in Africa to do so.

On July 17, 2023, the CEO of Joshfortech took the AWS Solutions Architect Associate test, an equally difficult exam for his age, and passed with flying colors, establishing yet another African first.

AWS Developer Associate certification, according to Amazon, demonstrates expertise and comprehension of essential AWS services, as well as proficiency in designing, deploying, and troubleshooting cloud-based applications.

Companies that use AWS Certified developers can be certain that they have the proper expertise to give them a competitive advantage and assure stakeholder and customer satisfaction, while preparing for and achieving this certification gives certified professionals more confidence and credibility.

In response to the question of what motivated him to accomplish this accomplishment, Joshua disclosed that he performed admirably on his AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam earlier this year.

As a result, his father urged him to advance his cloud career by sitting for the next level certification.

Despite his interest in DevOps, the common next step was to pursue the Solutions Architect Associate credential, which he accomplished.

“I was initially preparing for the Solutions Architect Associate certification, which is the next certification most people take in their AWS cloud journey,” Joshua said of his recent accomplishment.

“But, about 3 weeks into my preparation for the exam, an older friend of mine, who is also a programmer came visiting, and in his discussions with my dad and me, challenged me to consider doing the tougher Developer Associate Certification too. When he said he believed I could do it because I was already proficient in programming and it would be easier for me to appreciate most of the concepts, the light bulb went up in my head, and I began studying the next day”.

He added; “The possibility of clinching the title of the youngest Developer Associate in the world, which is an equivalent of a world record in the cloud space, also became a strong motivation for me. I prepared for the test by studying for about 2 to 5 hours daily for about 6 weeks.

“In the first 2 weeks, I was able to appreciate the core concepts of the course and also gain knowledge of all the topics that could come up in the exam. I got a grip on major AWS services like Dynamodb, Lambda, RDS, Codedeploy, Aurora, Systems Manager, and more.

“There were some overlaps between the Solutions Architect Associate curriculum and that of the Developer Associate in topics like Lambda, RDS , Aurora, and Dynamodb. This turned part of my study time into revision time, as I had covered the content of the Solutions Architect course earlier. I am glad that all my studying and practicing has paid off.”

Joshua told our reporter that his accomplishments in the cloud sector have caught the attention of a tech company in Lagos, Nigeria, which has already provided him technical mentorship.

He is looking forward to this next mentorship and the opportunity to put what he has learnt into practice in surroundings that mimic real-world scenarios.

Joshua sees this as proof that if you follow your job goals with zeal, doors will open for you.

He stated that he is dedicating this accomplishment to the many young people who wish to pursue a career in technology, and he is encouraging and challenging them to pursue their ambitions.
