Abdullahi Adamau Audu, a Nigerian passenger, died on a trip from Delhi to Doha due to a medical issue.
On Monday morning, March 13, 2023, an IndiGo flight, a private Indian airline, was involved in an incident.
After the pilot reported that the passenger “was not breathing and had no pulse,” the airline conducted an emergency landing at Karachi International Airport in Pakistan to save him.
There are no direct flights between India and Pakistan due to their tense ties.
The IndiGo flight with 163 passengers landed at the Jinnah Terminal International Airport in Karachi around midnight on Monday.
Civil Aviation Authority Pakistan said the Nigerian man felt unwell mid-journey, after which the captain of the plane contacted the air traffic control and requested for a doctor and an ambulance.
But upon examination, the passenger was declared dead by the airport’s medical team. The plane departed for its destination four hours later.
In a statement released on Monday, IndiGo, offered condolences to the family of the deceased.
“Flight 6E-1736, operating from Delhi to Doha was diverted to Karachi due to a medical emergency on board. Unfortunately, on arrival, the passenger was declared dead by the airport medical team,” read the statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the news and our prayers and wishes are with his family and loved ones. We’re currently making arrangements for transferring the other passengers of the flight, in coordination with the relevant authorities,” it added.
