Following the barbaric treatment of Nigerian super eagles in Libya, the House of Representatives has ordered the Federal Government to invite the Lybian ambassador to Nigeria for an explanation.
The chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Ahmadu, has raised an urgent national issue and requested that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) file a formal complaint with CAF and FIFA.
The House praised the NFF’s decision to boycott the game scheduled for today.
The development comes after the Nigerian football senior men’s team, the Super Eagles, expressed safety concerns after being stranded at Al Abaq Airport for more than 13 hours without access to basic essentials such as food, water, and a place to relax.
The scenario quickly sparked outrage, which was exacerbated by photographs of the Super Eagles sleeping on airport benches.
The Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, called the conditions at Al Abaq Airport as “disgraceful,” accusing Libyan officials of intentionally playing “mind games” by canceling their landing permit and leaving them trapped without basic amenities.
The mistreatment prompted Nigeria to withdraw from the match, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 15.
