Tobi Amusan Fails To Reach Olympic Women’s 100m Hurdles Final

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the world record holder, failed to go to the 100m Hurdles final at the Paris Olympics after finishing third in the first semi-final.

Amusan finished in 12.55 seconds and had to wait for the results of the other two semi-finals to see if she would make it through.

However, in the third semi-final, the two competitors who finished third and fourth outperformed her.

In the third semi-final, Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent crossed the finish line in 12.44 seconds to finish third, while France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela finished fourth.

Both racers ran better speeds and qualified, ruining Amusan’s chances of finishing on the podium in her third Olympics appearance.

Amusan rose to prominence when she set a new record in the women’s 100 meters hurdles at the 2022 world championships in Eugene, Oregon, United States, clocking 12.12 seconds, breaking the previous record of 12.20 seconds set by American Kendra Harrison in 2016 and becoming the first Nigerian to hold a world record in an athletic event.

With her performance, Nigeria may go without a medal in the games, which conclude on Sunday.
