AFN Trials: Usheoritse Itsekiri Crowned Nigeria’s Men’s 100m Champion

Usheoritse Itsekiri, a bronze medalist at the African Games, is the new fastest man in Nigeria in the men’s 100m after setting an equal personal mark of 10.02 seconds in the Nigerian Athletics Championships at Benin’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

He did it by matching his Personal Best (PB) from 2019, the same year he won his maiden national title, his second over 100m. Following him in second place was Favour Ashe, who was followed by Seye Ogunlewe and Enoch Adegoke.

Itsekiri set a Personal Best (PB) of 20.34 seconds in the men’s 200m at the Johnny Loaring Classic in Ontario last month, beating off Jeremiah Lauzon (20.83 seconds) and Michael Roth (20.85 seconds).

The University of Regina Masters of Engineering student’s track record continues to improve, as he is ranked top in Canada in U-Sports for the 60-meter dash on an indoor track in February 2023.
