Omorinmade Anikulapo-Kuti, better known by his stage name Made Kuti, is a Nigerian afrobeat singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He was born on September 26, 1995. He is the son of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the great teacher and father of afrobeat, and the legendary Femi Kuti. For(e)ward, his debut album, was released in 2021.
Early Life and Education
Made Kuti was reared at the New Afrika Shrine and was born on September 26, 1995, to Femi and Funke Kuti in Lagos State, Nigeria. At the age of three, he started playing the trumpet, and over the course of his life, he also mastered the alto sax, piano, and drums. He completed his elementary and senior schooling at CTC Primary School and Beehive School before enrolling at Fela Kuti’s alma mater, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, in London.
Career
With the band Positive Force, Made Kuti launched his musical career. He joined the group as a young child and played bass and saxophone, which launched his musical career. He started going on trips with the group at the age of eight. He released his debut song, “Free Your Mind,” in October 2020.
Both For(e)ward, his debut solo album, and Legacy+, a double album he recorded with his father Femi Kuti, were made available.
The record was created by longtime Fela Kuti associate Sodi Marciszewer and distributed by Partisan Records. Stop the Hate by Femi Kuti, the album’s first 10 tracks, is followed by For(e)ward by Made Kuti, the album’s final 8 tracks.
The book’s cover has a portrait of Femi and Made Kuti by Delphine Desane. It received a 7.7 out of 10 rating from a Pulse Nigeria album reviewer. He has been credited with fusing jazz, highlife, rock, and reggae in his music.
Made Kuti launched his band, The Movement, at a gathering called “An Evening with Made Kuti,” which he held at Lagos’ Terra Kulture Arena.
Personal Life
He is the son of Nigerian artist Femi Kuti and the grandson of afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Beyond his musical profession, little is known about his relationships and lifestyle. He is rumored to be married to businesswoman and designer of swimwear, Inedoye Adanne Onyenso.
Advocacy
In addition to having had his musical skills adequately influenced by a childhood spent inside the walls of the fabled New Afrika Shrine founded by his grandfather, Made Kuti maintains a well-informed mind and uses his aptitude to conceptualize the world through music. Recent protests against police brutality in Nigeria caused the government to disband SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad), a notorious component of the country’s police force. Made recently expressed his full support for these protests. This week, even Made and his father, Femi Kuti, hit the streets.
