Nigerian Artist, Lola Mewu, Attempts to Break Guinness World Record for Longest Painting Marathon

Lola Mewu, a Nigerian artist, is currently attempting to break the world record for the longest painting marathon.

She declared months ago that she would aim to break the Guinness World Record for the longest hour spent painting. Lola began painting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023, after Guinness World Records approval.

By 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 30, the artist’s painting marathon had lasted 43 hours.

Lola’s drawings depict childhood activities such as playing in class, visiting a call center, and looking out the window. As part of the Guinness World Record requirement, several of the artworks have already been auctioned off.

Lola hopes to break Ronald Palmaerts’s record of painting for 60 hours continuously in 2013.

She is scheduled to finish the challenge by Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Lola’s attempt comes months after Hilda Baci broke the Guinness World mark for cooking for hours, inspiring many Nigerians to try to break the mark.
