Tunde Onakoya, creator of Chess in Slums Africa, is attempting to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest chess marathon without losing any games.
Onakoya will begin the effort on Wednesday in Times Square, New York City, USA.
The chess expert intends to play many chess games for 58 hours without losing a single game. Throughout the attempt, Onakoya is only allowed five five-minute breaks per hour.
The Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon is 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.
On November 11, 2018, Norwegians Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad accomplished this feat.
Before the attempt began, Onakoya shared a collection of photos of Nigerians in Times Square to show their support.
“We haven’t even started yet, and Nigerians are already trooping into camp out with me,” the text of the message reads.
Onakoya aspires to empower uneducated youngsters in Africa through the feat.
“Doing this for the dreams of millions of children across Africa without access to education. You guys have been rock solid for me through the years,” he said.
“So I need all of us to come together now more than ever to show the world that the Nigerian spirit is unwavering and we can do great things from a small place against all odds.”
