Nigeria’s Role in Our Education Significant, says Ghana Consul-General

Ghana’s consul-general in Lagos, Samata Bukari, has praised Nigeria for its academic contributions to the University of Ghana.

Bukari told journalists that Nigeria has played “remarkable roles in delivering education and research at this premier university” while honoring the varsity’s 75th anniversary.

She stated that the two countries have been cooperating in education for many years, therefore the necessity for continuity.

“The University of Ghana is celebrating its 75th anniversary, and we are using this opportunity to acknowledge the role Nigeria and Nigerian students have played in our existence. And we desire such to continue,” she said.

“Nigerian researchers and academicians have played remarkable roles in achievements recorded over the years in delivering education and research at this premier university.”

Following the recent announcement of the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results in Nigeria and other West African countries, the consul-general stated that the university has begun its student recruiting drive.

Bukari urged interested applicants to leverage available courses offered at the university.

“The good news here is that plans are ongoing to give foreign students reduced fees in the coming year, without jeopardising quality,” she added.

“This package is to encourage more applications into the University. We will also offer payment of fees in installments; accommodation and good security will also be available for international students.”

Emmanuel Dankwa, the varsity recruitment officer, said that despite the low admission process in the past five years, Nigerians constituted 60 per cent of students in the university.

Dankwa added that the school prides itself on Nigerian lecturers.
