Nigeria’s Women 4x100m Team Win Gold At African Senior Athletics Championships

Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m team won gold at the African Senior Athletics Championship, defeating perennial foe Ghana, who won silver.

The team, led by record-holder Tobi Amusan, won gold in 42.76 seconds.

Amusan was in jeopardy for the finals after becoming ill the night before.

Nigeria began the sprint relay with Justina Eyakpobeya running the first leg and passing the baton to Tima Godbless.

The gold medal was all but assured as Godbless handed over the baton to Olayinka Olajide.

The 100m hurdles world record holder (12.12 seconds) simply needed to shift gears to blow away the rest of the pack, coasting home in 42.72 seconds to add gold to Nigeria’s collection.

Nigeria has maintained their gold-winning streak at this tournament since 2018.
