Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and his wife, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, will pay a visit to Nigeria this May.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters, said in a statement on Monday that they will meet with service members and host a variety of cultural activities while in the country.
The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry, are an international multi-sporting tournament that provides a recovery pathway for international wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women.
It also raises soldiers’ knowledge and recognition in society, which helps them on their route to rehabilitation. The most recent Invictus Games had over 500 athletes and 21 nations in attendance, including Nigeria, which won gold and bronze in its debut last year.
“The visit is to consolidate Nigeria’s stronghold at the game, and the possibility of hosting the event in later years,” the statement said in part, adding that the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, who was in Germany for last year’s event, had accepted to host the games when granted to Nigeria.
