Rema Announces Homecoming Concert in Benin

Rema, a Nigerian musician, has announced a homecoming concert in Benin, Edo State.

On Friday, the musician posted on social media that he will be performing in his hometown.

The event is scheduled for August 30 at Benin’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Last year, Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo, revealed plans to host the pop singer for a homecoming on December 21.

Rema had to cancel all of his December 2023 gigs owing to health issues.

“It breaks my heart to say that I won’t be performing anywhere this December,” he said.

“It has been years of touring, I have ignored my health and I need time to recuperate. 2024 we go again, love.”

The announcement follows the publication of Rema’s sophomore album, ‘Heis’.

The album had the highest first-week streams on Spotify Nigeria in 2024.

According to Turntable Charts, ‘Heis’ received 12.3 million streams in its first week.

Rema, whose true name is Divine Ikubor, signed with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a Mavin Records subsidiary, in 2019.

Since then, he has emerged as a key figure in Africa’s music industry.

He received ‘Best Male Artiste’ and ‘Digital Artiste Of The Year’ at the 16th Headies Awards.

In December 2023, Spotify named him one of the most exported artists who ruled the Sub-Saharan African charts that year.
