Shadrach Adeboye Folarin is professionally known as “Shaydee.” He is a singer and songwriter from Nigeria. Shaydee was named one of the “15 Artists to Watch in 2015” by notJustOk. He is best known for the smash hit “Won Gbo Mi,” on which Wizkid also sings. He was a Headies Award winner in 2015.
Early Life and Education
Shaydee was born on September 21, 1987, in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria’s northernmost region. Shaydee is the youngest of four children. When he was a child, his family relocated from Kano to Lagos.
He attended primary and secondary school in Lagos State, Nigeria, before transferring to Kogi State to further his education. He went on to complete his Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Ilorin after completing his IJMB at Kogi State Polytechnic.
Career
Shaydee began singing in high school with a classmate after moving from Kano to Lagos. In 2010, he signed a recording contract with Cackland Records and released a number of songs, including “Love Me Like U Used 2” and “Hands in the Air.” Shaydee was a featured artist on MI’s song “Pain,” which appeared on his mixtape Illegal Music II in April 2012.
On June 11, 2012, Shaydee signed a recording contract with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment, which aided in his career advancement. He is frequently credited with writing and featuring songs on EME’s 2012 compilation album Empire Mates State of Mind. Shaydee has since worked with Ice Prince, Seyi Shay, Skales, Cynthia Morgan, and Legendary Beatz, among others.
Shaydee and Wizkid released “Won Gbo Mi,” a freestyle produced by Legendury Beatz, on November 16, 2013. The song “Won Gbo Mi” was well-liked by both music critics and fans, and it reached the top of the country’s regional music charts. The song was recorded in Lagos by Jassy Generation, the director of the music video. It debuted on the video-sharing platform YouTube on June 11, 2014.
On September 10, 2014, Shaydee signed an endorsement agreement with Metro Cab, a taxi company based in Nigeria. Shaydee was nominated for The Headies Award in 2015 for his song “High,” which was released on March 18, 2015. Shaydee was nominated for “Best R&B Artist of the Year” at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Shaydee’s debut studio album, SOS, was released in 2016.
