Top 10 Universities of Science and Technology in Nigeria

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomosho in Oyo state has been named Nigeria’s top technological university.

This is according to the latest Webometrics ranking released in January 2023.

The top three were the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in Ondo state and the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTA Minna) in Niger state.

Here is a list of the top ten best technology universities in Nigeria.

1. LAUTECH

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) was named the finest science and technology university in Nigeria and the seventh best in the country.

The university was founded on April 23, 1990, as Oyo State University of Technology, Ogbomoso (OSUTECH) under the previous Oyo State.

After the formation of Osun State from old Oyo State in 1991, the name of the university was changed to (LAUTECH).

LAUTECH was jointly held by the states of Oyo and Osun until November 20, 2020, when Oyo State assumed exclusive control as a result of a consensual arrangement between the two states.

 

2. FUTA

The Federal institution of Technology Akure (FUTA) is ranked as Nigeria’s second best institution of sciences and technology and the country’s ninth best.

FUTA was founded in 1981 with the goal of becoming a world-class university of technology and a center of excellence in education, research, and service delivery.

 

3. FUT Minna

Federal institution of Technology Minna (FUT Minna) is ranked as Nigeria’s third best institution of sciences and technology and the country’s eleventh best.

FUT Minna is a Federal Government-owned university in Minna, the capital of Niger State.

The university is known for its technological education.

 

4. FUTO

Owerri, the capital of Imo State, is home to the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

FUTO was ranked the 23rd best university in Nigeria and the 4th top scientific and technology university in the country.

 

5. FUT Yola

The Federal University of Technology Yola (FUT Yola), presently known as Modibbo Adama University, was founded in 1981.

MAUY is Nigeria’s 41st best university and the country’s 5th top university of science and technology.

It is one of four federal technological colleges established only to advance science-based research.

 

6. CRUTECH

Cross River State Bill No. 9 of August 2002 founded the Cross River University of Technology, which was recently revised as Bill No. 6 of 2004.

The institution is the sixth top science and technology university in the country, ranking 43rd overall.

CRUTECH is the result of a combination of three former tertiary institutions held by the Cross River State Government (The Polytechnic, Calabar, the College of Education, Akamkpa, and the Ibrahim Babangida College of Agriculture, Ovonum, Obubra).

 

7. ATBU

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi is named after Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the first and first Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

ATBU is Nigeria’s 7th top scientific and technology university and 44th overall.

The university’s motto is “Doctrina Mater Artium,” which translates as “Education is the mother of the practical arts.”

According to the school’s website, the university was founded in 1980, but its first students were enrolled in October 1981 for pre-degree and remedial programs, with degree courses in the School of Science and Science Education starting in October 1982.

 

8. RSUST

The Rivers State College of Science and Technology created the Rivers State University (RSUST) Port Harcourt in October 1980.

RSUST is Nigeria’s eighth best scientific and technology university and 47th best overall.

RSUST is Nigeria’s first Technological University and the country’s first state-owned State University in the Niger Delta region. “Excellence and Creativity” is the University’s motto.

 

9. KSUSTA

Kebbi State institution of Science and Technology (KSUSTA) is a public institution located in Aliero, Kebbi State.

The university is ranked 9th in the world for science and technology and 52nd in Nigeria.

KSUSTA was founded in 2006 as Nigeria’s 79th university.

Agriculture and scientific programs, among others, are available at the university.

 

10. LASUSTECH

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), previously known as LASPOTECH, was founded in 1977.

LASUSTECH is a state-owned university focused on quality education, research, and technology.

The university is ranked 10th in the country for science and technology and 57th overall.
