UNICEF To Commit Over ₦480m To Healthcare For Women, Children In Zamafara

UNICEF will provide around ₦480 million to help women and children in Zamfara State receive free healthcare services.

Michael Juma, UNICEF Chief of the Sokoto Field Office, made the announcement during the three-day formal launch of UNICEF Interaction with Zamfara State Government officials on the state’s Ten-Year Strategic Plan.

During the three-day discussion of the state’s ten-year strategic plan, stakeholders believed the fund would assist the Dauda Lawal-led administration in achieving outcomes in its efforts to promote sustainable development in the State in the areas of Social, Economic, and Environmental.

In his presentation, Juma stated that the fund would provide free healthcare services to women and children in Zamfara State.

He went on to say that the organization is prepared to create an accountability, monitoring, and evaluation structure to assist key officials in administering the strategic plan in tracking success, and that it would engage with the state government to improve staff reporting and budgetary competitiveness.

UNICEF also stated that it would support Governor Dauda Lawal in understanding where the resources are going, the results obtained, and how they will improve the lives of the people.

While speaking, Governor Lawal thanked UNICEF for its assistance to the state and described the ten-year strategic plan as a road map to help his administration confront obstacles and achieve development goals.

UNICEF stated that it is working to ensure that children in the state have access to quality and inclusive education, with a focus on enrolling out-of-school children in school and acquiring suitable quality education to help them reach their full potential as they grow older.
