Wizkid, the Afrobeats singer, has explained why he does not engage in political conversations in Nigeria.
In a recent interview with Evening Standard UK, the singer said he seldom discusses politics while granting interviews because of its “irrelevance to Nigerians”.
He said the average Nigerian is primarily concerned with their basic needs, such as food; and has no interest in anything else.
“I do not like to speak about politicians in Nigeria,” he said.
“People in the streets care about themselves and what they are going to eat. They do not give a f*** about nothing else.”
With a huge fanbase, a slew of awards and honorary mentions, Wizkid has established himself as one of the leading names in the African music industry.
On Monday, the music star teased a new album. He recently headlined the Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

In November 2022, the singer released his fifth album titled ‘More Love, Less Ego’.
Speaking about the project, Wizkid said: “The phrase ‘More Love Less Ego’ is part of my life, it is like a progression. The last one ‘Made in Lagos’, that is where I am from”.
In January, he announced a MILLE tour to commemorate his album.
In March, the singer postponed the tour due to what he described as “unforeseen logistical circumstances.”
