The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has revealed that 110 million Nigerians have successfully registered in the National Identification Numbers (NIN) database.
Mrs. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Commission’s Director General, highlighted this milestone at the 6th National Identity Day ceremony in Abuja on Monday, September 16.
Coker-Odusote stated that the commission is committed to expanding enrollment and is striving to capture as many Nigerians as possible in the shortest amount of time.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the significance of data protection in light of the growing number of Nigerians seized by NIMC. He emphasized the importance of effectively managing the nation’s identity data.
The Federal Government established National identification Day in 2020, during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, with the purpose of boosting enrollment in the national identification database. September 16 was designated as the official day for raising awareness and promoting the value of digital identification.
