60-Year-Old Man Bags First Class in Sociology From University of Ibadan

Mr Farouk Sanni, 60, has realized a lifetime ambition by receiving a first-class degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state.

Sanni received eight honors and was named the top graduating student in his department at the ongoing 75th-anniversary convocation ceremony, proving that age is just a number when it comes to fighting for what one believes, according to The Nation.

The former banker from the United Bank of Africa (UBA) said that his uncle forced him to study Accounting at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife.

The sexagenarian stated that after retiring, he continued his quest to understand human behavior by retaking the University Matriculation Examination (UTME) before being admitted to study Sociology.

According to Vanguard, Sani revealed that he took the UTME with his child, who is a law student at the same university.

The shining graduate said:

“Studying in a class where you have those who are of the same age as your children can be very challenging, but I was magnanimous to accommodate what happened. Some called me daddy, some called me Mr Sanni while some will even say ‘he may be a daddy but he is not my father’. I experienced a lot of things, but as an old person, I was able to remain focused.”

Meanwhile, HowNG stated that Jubril Ojedele, a first-class graduate in Civil Engineering from the University of Ibadan (UI), described how he was able to attain such an extraordinary academic feat.

The 25-year-old said he read for hours because he needed to read ahead of others in order to help some of his struggling coworkers.
